Seat switch light always on

Recommended Posts

Hello

I have a 1990 312 Hydro that has the seat light switch lit up on dash with key on. On good note tractor will not start unless brake pedal is pressed. I did replace both safety switches at the PTO handle as it was not turning over because one of switches was damaged. PTO handle was coming back too far causing the switch lever to travel past the plate and snapping it off upon the next push forward. The deck belts work with me off the seat. There is no power to wiring to seat switch. This thing runs no matter ...good problem to have but want safety devices working. Anyone come across this? TIA

Anthony

Download this file. There is an individual ignition diagram.

When the green wire at the seat switch is grounded the light should be off with operator in seat.

When the pto is engaged the orange wire gets grounded which kills the ignition with no operator in the seat.

Caution - do not allow any battery voltage to get to the orange wire at the switch or anywhere on the ignition magneto wire - that will release the magic smoke.

#7 Green on dash connector panel doesn't appear to have power to it. When I apply test light to it, it does shut the seat light off. Ok thanks for wring info!

There will never be power in the green wire. When it is grounded the light comes on - logic circuits

There will never be power in the green wire. When it is grounded the light goes off - logic circuits

Your test light is providing a high impedance ground.

Most illogical.

That is a good thing,   Seat switch provides a ground to shut down the magneto when PTO is on and driver is off the seat.

:confusion-confused:        Sounds like the seat switch is defective or unplugged (or a broken wire) or the PTO switch is not closing when the PTO is engaged.

I tested switch with omh meter and opens and closing with continuity reading. PTO switch brand new. Next thing to do is check broken wire from seat switch to PTO switch?
