Like to take a poll on new plastic fuel pumps. Do you like or do you hate them. They just look cheap to me. Let me know what you think.

I like things that work well and can be repaired as needed to keep them working.  Therefore, I don't like plastic fuel pumps because they are throwaways.

They are junk and can not be trusted to run for long.  I had the pump arm break off on a couple.

I do keep el cheapo stuff like that around. 

 

Sometimes limping a horse out of the elements is worth it. 

 

Get it in, fix correctly, save junk plastic fuel pump for the next failure. (which may be the same junk pump) just a thought

What's a guy to do when metal ones are NLA? Electric I guess.

I'll rebuild metal pumps as long as I can get the parts. 

 

 

Even an OE Kohler fuel pump has been plastic for decades. 

Are they better than cheapos? Yeah probably but also HUGE money.

  Failed vacuum pulse pumps can suck gas into the crank case just like a failed diaphragm in a cam operated pump.  Why take the chance ...electric isn't that expensive...

That was mentioned in my other thread too. And to use a shutoff. 

I HAVE shutoffs in all my tractors but I honestly don't remember to USE them often at all. 

 

I have 2 pulse pumps here and a Facet electric. 

I was going to save the electric pump for a different rig but I'm thinking I may be better off to use it.

I haven't had any luck with plastic pumps. I have one plastic one on my c161 that surprisingly works, but it was on there when I got it and it looks old. I always buy metal pumps when I can find them and keep them around and rebuild as needed.

Eric is there a wiring diagram and these do work on Start /gen engines?

Just tap into the line going to the + on the coil.  Yes they work on S/G

Electric fuel pump should have 2 wires. 

Normally, 

Red is hot. 

Black is ground. 

 

Run the red as stated above. 

Run the black right to the battery negative/ ground.

The I terminal (coil + wire) is 12 volts in start and run.  That and a  ground wire is all you need.  I ground mine to the pump mounting bolts haven't had any issues.

Where did you get your pump. How does this mount up? On the old pump hole?

 All my electric pumps are under the seat fuel tanks.  Pumps push better than suck so I mount them next to the tank.  I use Facet posiflo pumps now ..had a 50% failure rate on the cheapie China pumps../

 

You can leave the old pump in place cap the fuel line fittings...

So I guess I just tape in to the existing fuel line but with the 856 it will have to be a forward mount. Maybe off the coil bracket. Thanks for all your help. I will get this done. Eventually they will all have these as the old pumps wear out. Did you get this at EBay or other site. OHH Also is there a model number you use and good for 8hp to 12 hp that is what I have.

I have used Aircraft spruce as a source also you can use Amazon.  I have been using the 1.5 - 4.0 PSI  others prefer the 1-2 psi  (since your tank is higher and closer 1-2psi should work fine)

 

Facet pumps are made in USA Elmira NY

Unless you want " Original" to satisfy the OHHH and AHH guys,  the judges at the WH " Concours D' Elegance " show  or it's a recoil no battery tractor it makes no sense to put on an an old ready to warp and leak again metal pump. Go electric.
