smitty316 24 #1 Posted August 6 Okay folks, I realized that it probably more appropriate to move my questioning to the electrical part of this forum instead of in the long thread I've generated in the general information. So at this point I just want to get it running so that I can systematically start reintroducing the safety switches and other stuff. I've included a picture of the wiring diagram with what I think is the bare bones wiring, highlighted in yellow, that will get it running. What do you think? is this enough? Also, I think a rectifier is a device to keep current moving in one direction?? I guess I need to include this connection to the ignition switch? I just don't want to damage it or any other component. Thanks again, Smitty
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #2 Posted August 6 Battery, start and ignition is all that is required to make it run. The rectifier can be left disconnected - the battery will not charge. The start wire to the pto switch is required to start plus continue on to the remaining components you colored. The wiring to the indicator lamps is not required. They simply monitor the safety switch status. When a safety switch is not activated the lamp comes on to tell you why it won't start. Can't remember if we gave you this link. Each circuit has it's own diagram.

smitty316 24 #4 Posted August 7 Thank you gwest! This is perfect! My new switch cam in so I'll hold my breath and give it a try today. 953 nut, I didn't know how important it was to you guys that I use the correct part of the forum. Some forums I've used for other things will give you trouble if you don't submit things under the correct heading. And yes, I've had some really valuable replies on that other thread. I'll definitely be referring back to that. Thanks again, Smitty
953 nut 55,394 #5 Posted August 7 Here is a basic wiring diagram using a 103-990 ignition switch that may be helpful.
smitty316 24 #6 Posted August 7 All right, I plugged in the new ignition and it fired right up. So now I can work on replacing all the cut off safety switches and getting this wiring harness back in order. My FIRST QUESTION is how the ignition switch bundle feeds back up behind the battery. I forgot to take a picture of how it came through, but the picture I attached shows my best guess. It doesn't seem quite right though. Thanks, Smitty
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #7 Posted August 7 Looks OK to me but I have nothing to go by. The wires appear to go past both sides of the steering column. The column will wear flats in the insulation and eventually contact the copper inside and a short is created. A single plastic loom cover may be too big for the clearance around the column. Two smaller split looms may work better -3/8"? In case you want to work with the low oil switch these are instructions on how to remove and install without damage.

WHX?? 48,853 #10 Posted August 7 Just throwing this in here FYI. When dealing with a ig switch harness that has been POed start with one of these. I ditch the crimp connectors in favor of soldering & shrink wrap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/112475723300 1
smitty316 24 #11 Posted August 11 If anyone has a picture that would help me get this PTO switch properly wired I'd appreciate it. The wiring diagrams don't really help me here because I don't know which terminals on the switch are which. A real picture with a description of the wires would really help, Oh yeah, 86 416-8 Thanks, Smitty

Those switches have a NO, NC & COM terminals and are usually identified on the switch, but may be on the opposite side. NO means normally open, and NC means normally closed, the common terminal is connected to the supply or whatever the schematic says. Simply test the switch with a meter and watch what happens when you operate it. Those switches are available from electronic supply houses, try to find the numbers on it. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #13 Posted August 11 Click on the switch. A diagram of the switch wiring comes up. Click on it to enlarge
smitty316 24 #14 Posted August 12 Also, The plug for the top half of the switch is missing so I'll have to improvise that. And one of the wires for the lower plug is missing too.

Google micro switch connectors and you will find numerous places for switches and connectors.
smitty316 24 #16 Posted August 12 Thank you gwest! This looks really helpful. I'll see what I can figure out from this. Smitty
smitty316 24 #17 Posted August 12 Is this the Peddle Interlock Switch? Also, any other picture of the PTO Safety Switch connections would be appreciated. The lower terminals are kind of hidden under the top wires in the picture. Thanks, Smitty
smitty316 24 #18 Posted August 12 I'm having a hard time matching up the color code on the wiring diagram with the wires that are color labeled on the photo that you attached. Thanks again, Smitty

Look at the decal on the other side of the panel Is this the lever that locks the parking brake? Is there an indicator lamp for the parking brake being set? If yes, this switch turns it on!
smitty316 24 #20 Posted August 12 Thanks Handy Don, Yes, this locks the break in place. I guess that's what they mean by "interlock"??
Handy Don 12,282 #21 Posted August 13 1 hour ago, smitty316 said: I guess that's what they mean by "interlock"?? Interlock usually means that it can prevent something from working. The clutch pedal interlock is a different switch and it prevents the engine from starting if the clutch is not depressed. The parking brake switch is an indicator that the brake is on but it won’t prevent the tractor from starting or running.
smitty316 24 #22 Posted August 13 Thanks, I don't seem to be able to find the clutch pedal interlock. It might be missing from this machine, but where should I look? Thanks, Smitty

Thanks, Smitty It should be located on the right hand side of the tunnel between the operator's legs, rather hard to see from the top. Remove the belt guard and you can see it from the linkage side.
smitty316 24 #24 Posted August 14 I guess the pedal interlock switch has been removed. If anyone has a picture of one that's correctly installed I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Smitty
