mike avad 41 #1 Posted August 3 I have a 1976 wheel horse B-80 with a K181 Kohler 8HP engine I just redone all the wiring in the right place on the Ignition switch that was in the wrong place when I got this and I used a wiring diagram from this site. so its running good but when I put the PTO in gear the engine want to turn off and IF don't put it in gear to will stay running. there a maybe a 2ft pace of wire of wirer that has power to it when I got this from a guy this wirer was under the seat with a paper clip stuck in the socket and this had power going to the wire and I don't see nothing on this diagram
Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #2 Posted August 3 Sounds like the paper clip was used to bypass a safety switch.
mike avad 41 #3 Posted August 4 well don't think that was a good thing to do that where can I find the right safety switch that go's in there? could someone post a photo of it and a part number
953 nut 55,394 #4 Posted August 4 Do you have a manually operated PTO clutch or is it an electric clutch PTO? If there is a short in an electric PTO it could draw down the voltage going to the ignition coil. Are you sure your Wheel Horse is a 1976? I ask this because the first year a seat safety switch was used on Wheel Horses was 1978. The PTO interlock used on the 1977 and earlier models just kept you from attempting to start the engine with the PTO on so you wouldn't be asking the starter motor to turn over a mower, snow blower or tiller. mike avad 41 #5 Posted August 4 Yes sir it[s a 1976 i was looking at the parts book that I have for this tractor and it said something about a switch under the seat. and my PTO had a handle on the side and am not sure I want to put that paper clip back in there and mess up all them wires and short something out
mike avad 41 #6 Posted August 4 That the wiring diagram I work off of and all them wire wasn't in the right places but now they are off this diagram you posted
rmaynard 15,535 #7 Posted August 4 (edited) No B-80 8-Speed that I have ever had, had a seat safety switch. I have had three of them. The circuit to the starter solenoid is wired with a single pole button switch at the clutch pedal, and the same at the PTO. These are in series and engaging either one will prevent actuation of the starter. There is no safety switch in the ignition circuit. The wiring is simple. Here is the diagram that is applicable to the B-80 and B-100. Edited August 4 by rmaynard
mike avad 41 #8 Posted August 4 OK I have 2 switch one for the clutch and 1 for the PTO but is there another one that go's to the seat the reason I am ask is because there a wirer that has power coming from the switch from the PTO and there was a paper clip on this at one time and am trying to find out what kind of switch go's there and as for now all the wirers are in the right places to the key switch
