Gluchie 0 #1 Posted August 2 Hello I am new here and appreciate all the content available! I was given a 1995 416-8 with a Power Plus/Onan motor. The previous owner said that the tractor developed an electrical issue and several years ago decided to troubleshoot and soon after dropped the project. He disconnected all the wiring and I am having a difficult time figuring what goes where. Electrical parts were disconnected and in a plastic tub. If anyone has pictures of the wiring it would be helpful. I've tried following the wiring diagram, but with v/r, coil. capacitor & started disconnected it's been difficult to decipher. With those we can link you to a parts list so you can identify the various switches and relays. Then you can do a search for them using the part number and hopefully we have a picture of them. Handy Don 12,281 #6 Posted August 2 (edited) Welcome to the forum and congrats on having the smarts to ask for an assist! As several folks here have correctly noted, we all started as rookies and had to learn--most of us have vivid memories of some of the lessons! The 416 wiring can be intimidating at first. In part, this is because it involves several distinct functions: starting the engine, keeping the engine running, charging the battery, accessories (like headlights), and, let us not forget, SAFETY that is involved with ALL of these! There are also things in there that were driven by cost savings and manufacturing efficiencies. Another way to look at the wiring is from endpoints. So, for example, what does the connection to the ignition switch look like? How is the starter motor connected? How does the connection to the PTO lever safety switch work? Once you supply the model number and we can identify the IPL (illustrated parts list) as well as the OM (Owner manual) you can start to familiarize yourself with the “innards” and go from there. Gradually, the overall setup will come into perspective. I hope you have enough mechanical skill to be willing to take off and put back on most of the sheet metal covers--that will make it vastly easier to access the wiring endpoints. Gluchie 0 #7 Posted August 2 Mr. Handy Don, I appreciate your input, endpoints are my problem. Starter, coil, Etc have been disconnected. Just loose wires everywhere. The only thing attached to wires is the ignition switch everything else pretty much has been unplugged and in a tub. I was hoping for a color picture of the wires connected to the voltage regulator so I know their position. Same with coil and starter. Right now I am trying to get the motor running and once that is accomplished I can trace out all the disconnected switches if that's even possible afterwards. If I take something apart I am usually good at reassembly, but starting from scratch is a bit daunting. Thanks again g Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I cannot offer assistance with photos of the wiring or endpoint--I’m hoping someone who re-did a 416 can share some of their pictures. Endpoints are many: ignition switch, ignition coil, starter solenoid, kill solenoid (if it has one), voltage regulator, 9-pin connector, gauge connections, PTO lever, operator seat, brake/clutch switch (if it has one), light sockets, voltmeter, engine block, battery, and more. Meantime, have you searched this site (using the search box near the top of the page) for the OM and IPL using the model number or year? Search term will be like “Tractor 1988 416-H”. Be sure to select the “use all my search words” and “files/documents” to narrow your search properly. The OM has the color-coded wiring diagram. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Not sure if yours is early or late -- need the serial number, late 1995 416-8 model 73420 is serial 5900615 and up This page shows SNs that the forum has seen for this model. Pages 7-57 to 7-60 of the Demistification Guide gives a full wiring diagram for your tractor as well as system wiring detail. I did notice that the "9 PIN" connector wiring in that guide is inaccurate. The wiring shown for the 520 of the same year range is correct and I have attached it below. The 9 pin is an Onan wiring connector that connects your engine to the rest of the tractor. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
