slantram 9 #1 Posted September 4, 2009 New guy here.A C-81 with 3 forward and 1 reverse speed with high/low range,is this what's commonly referred to as an 8 Speed? If so can an 8 speed from a 312-8 be swapped into the C-81 with no problem? Appreciate any responses. Thanks, Slantram.
bitten 134 #2 Posted September 4, 2009 slantram first off It should be a direct replacement. I am thinking that the C's have the 8 pinion rear end in them and the 312-8 has the 4 pinon in them. You can verify this by mesuring the axle. The 8 pinon will be 1 1/8" and the 4 will be 1". If im right you will need the hubs off of the 312-8 to mount your wheels. If there is nothing to much wrong with the one that is on there now I would stick with the 8 pinon as they are a better rear end. Good luck. P.J.
