tiller install help please

Recommended Posts

Sunny Burger

Hi,

I have a 36" tiller that I'm trying to put on my 312-8.  (Tiller is 0736TL05).  I've looked at a couple manuals and I am still a little cloudy.  I have the tiller, and the mule.  I am short a belt and a lift cable as far as I can tell, as well as a lifting spring and a mule spring.  Is there a way to hook up and use this tiller without ordering original parts?  Can I use generic springs?

* Manual says belt is 1/2 x 141   Legit?

* Do I absolutely need the cable tube?

I appreciate the help.

I have a tiller here that we haven't installed yet so I'll be interested in seeing the replies.

Not sure on which spring is which but the OE springs are pretty stout and need to be close to correct sized.

I believe there are replacements available.

Maybe Lowell at Wheelhorsepartsandmore has them?

Cannot answer your other questions, but one purpose of the lift cable tube is to keep the cable cleaner and guide it so it doesn’t wear against other parts between the front and rear rock shafts. There are posts where members have circumvented both the tube and the rear rock shaft by using other fabricated parts to accomplish the same ends. The tiller is a heavy implement and the lift angles are tricky so take care it you decide to work out a different (safe and durable) way to lift it.

Without the cable TUBE,  the CABLE will soon fray and/or wear out.  I have the cable tube (60 & 61)for you...and the cable (18) with cable clamps, CLEVIS (54) and cable 'loops' with clevis PINS.  Also a short length of CHAIN (25) with clevis (24).   The drive belt idler bracket SPRING ...I'll provide what I think is right...but you MAY have to cut it to length.

This should give you all you need to hook-up the tiller to your 312-8.

Put $45 into my Paypal account and I send all the hookup hardware shown in the pics---plus a few incidentals.

ps--the belt you need is OEM part # 110265.  It is 141" long x 1/2" wide.

My paypal account name is:  daveoman@windstream.net

Is this called the lift handle?  Where does this attach?  I thought the tiller was lifted and lowered by the tractor lift arm.

Thanks.

PS: Any chance you have an extra down pressure bar for my plow?  :)  Thanks for the reply, I'm not the best at reading drawings.

The @daveoman1966’s last picture is of the rock shaft that mounts under the seat along with the cable that goes to the front rock shaft (the tractor lift arm), and the chain that goes to the tiller. There are also bushings on which the shaft pivots and E-clips to hold it in place. This rock shaft acts as a “relay” of sorts to redirect the lift force at the correct angle to lift the tiller.

The #54 end of the cable (in the diagram) attaches to the tractor lift arm and the #19 to the under-seat rock shaft #12. The chain goes between the #12 and the #24 clevis that pins the chain to the tiller.

This is not the lift handle.  I thought your 312-8 already had the ROCK SHAFT (#12 in my schematic.)  I made the rock shaft in my pics but you can buy a new one that would look like one of these:

Excellent thread. Glad I followed.  I'll be saving this one for future reference.
