Bill D 1,924 #1 Posted July 26 Planning to swap this B48 into a GT1800. I was wondering if anyone here had experience with these engines? Looks basically like a P218 with points. I believe it's an 87'. Thanks.
wallfish 17,011 #2 Posted July 26 Other than having one on the shelf, no. Fired it up and it runs is all I know. Mine came from a JD tractor and has the bolts on the flywheel side for the drive shaft. Maybe you should look up the engine by spec number to check if it has a bearing on the shaft side in order to handle the side load of driving belts.
lynnmor 7,307 #3 Posted July 26 You will need to do your homework and check crankshaft height, diameter and length. Also check the location of the crankshaft from the mounting bolt pattern, I believe that I read that the B models had a different offset than the P's. OEM's can specify many different options, for example the thrust bearing mentioned above but I believe that was always installed and not an option. Bolt holes in the flywheel for a power takeoff was rather standard, Wheel Horse Onans have them under the fancy cover.
Bill D 1,924 #4 Posted July 27 Thanks for the info. It came from a Sears tractor. Not sure where to look up the specs based on the numbers. I did download a manual. From the serial number I believe it's a 1987.
lynnmor 7,307 #5 Posted July 27 Simply measure the the necessary dimensions, I'm sure there are specifications out there if you have the time to find them, but it could be a huge waste of time.
