Steering REpair for 417-A

Recommended Posts

Dreamcatcher

Hi All,

I'm hoping someone can help me with identifying the parts needed to fix the steering on my Wheel Horse 417-A.  Due to a mishap I'd rather not explain, I broke the steering link (I have and extra one) and the spindle came out of the mounting point.  I would like some help figuring out what I need to purchase to retain the spindle in the frame/support.  Thanks in advance.

There should be a snapring 3/4" External on the end of the spindle  You could also use an E clip

IMHO - I would suggest using what type the opposite side has. Why?? Not all snapring and E clip grooves are the same diameter and/or width...

The spindles on WHs used regular not Heavy Duty snap rings.

I just ordered one from HD.  Hopefully it will work well.

@Dreamcatcher  like a black vinyl grease cap , on those top areas , enhances lubrication / holding , stops moisture entry, 2 other areas , looking at me , no flat washer under that , steering bolt / nut  , and possible wheel shucking , side to side , sloppy slamming , have regularly , gone over to HEIM  joint ends , threaded rod , on related movement connections , that wheel shuck is easily corrected , with shimming  washers , from local H/W  store , pull out drawer section . also like lucas , hi temp / stress lubricant , for any moveable connection , bearing  clean out / refill . pete

@Dreamcatcher  https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/black-dust-caps-wh-109154-or-2816-qty-2/ , you might shop around for similar , what ever is handy for you , think its a good finish for that busy movement spot . like to get after REPEDITIVE  ISSUES , pete

The link appears to be the caps for the wheel hub not the spindle that I show in my initial post.

They might be a hair loose but they still work
