“Steve-Oh-Two”

Pullstart

Yesterday, while smoking up some chicken drums, I did a little maintenance to Steve-Oh-Two.  The front axle pivot was a bit loose, but I was able to tighten up the axle bolt and jam nut to remedy that.  I found some bolt on 4.8-8 wheels and tires to bring the front end width down and gave it a zero gravity grease job.  After clean up and airing up the tires, it drives much easier and feels way tighter!  Both hubs were a tad loose and I was able to get a bit more than 1/4 turn into the grub screws, before snugging up the jam nuts.  I wiped up the seepage around the hub and will monitor that.

The chicken turned out great, and I was able to get some sunset effect pictures of my prized possession!

I know most people are not aware of this, but I was born with my butt pretty close to the ground.  It never changed much.

I did a little fitting to make the Steve Oh Two fit my frame a bit better.

The stirrups were pretty low.  I turned them up a bit to grab my heels.  Shorts and boots, man!  Or flip flops, those are acceptable.

The seat has a 2x4 under it and it gave my butt too big a lift kit.  For the sake of keeping it around, I relocated it under the spring.  If ever I grow a half a foot, I can put it back   The seat is much closer to the fenders now, but it doesn’t rub when I’m on it.

Ya,    @stevasaurus is about an inch or ten taller,          guess he must have had a butt lift.    Hard to imagine a guy that big being on a submarine,  guess the Navy must have put a 2X4 under the seat at his workstation and turned the stirrups around too.   :ychain:

That was my Dad's 2x4, we were about the same height.  :occasion-xmas:

As far as Submarines, the closest I ever got to one was the one that came to the Winterharbor, Maine Lobster Festival one 4th of July.  I have been on the German "U" boat at Chicago's Musium of Science and Industry.  I am too tall to be on one says the Navy.  :USA:

The late model steering wheel was a bit odd looking.  I don’t have a correct one here, but a closer one.  A couple weeks ago I began soaking.

Today, I earned a right of passage.

Once I drove the pin out, I used this modest puller to yank the wheel.

Driving up the toy hauler ramp, the drive belt was slipping a bit.  I grabbed a 1/2x70 and 1/2x71 belt from the local TSC.  The 70” fit Steve Oh Two and Putt Putt received the 71”.  Perfect.  I was blown away to see pinstriping on the HY drive pulley under the belt guard.  Amazing!

Notice too, this frame has been plated at the transmission mount.  Good to know! :orcs-cheers:

That's a little puller!  Glad you said modest! I used a 13 ton puller from work when I took the wheel off of my 1267. The pin didn't budge so I had to use a 24" Crescent wrench to turn the puller screw to shear the pin. No flip flops were worn with that puller around!

This one is probably 2 feet long overall.  I ran it with my 24” crescent wrench too.
