Indeed catch it early.  I wrote back in June ago that mom had basal cell carcinoma.  From my understanding it's not normally that big of deal. She noticed something wrong more than a year ago.  Her general doctor gave her some salve to put on it.  Then she got sick and it took awhile to get back to see doctor about her carcinoma.  I'll post the picture of what we ended up dealing with.  (If it is to graphic administration can remove it.)

At first I had to change her dressing every day.  I slathered Vaseline on a bandage to keep the wound moist and wound the stretchy athletic tape that folks put on elbows and the like around her head.  Now home health comes three days a week and I change it as needed,   The wound is looking much better now.  The flesh is pretty much filled in to where it's flush with the skin.  Instead of being 3" in diameter, it now oval probably 1 3/4 by 2 1/4".  We'll be nursing this for quite a while

I have been on a bi annual plan with my dermatologist for several years now. I have had that same procedure done 5 times so far. 2 on my head, 2 on my elbow and one next to my eye. Mine were only the size of a dime and a  nickel.

My dermatologist has put me on hold this year to see if the chemo will take care of any future issues. I have an appointment this fall for a checkup.

I had been getting a full body scan, but in more recent times our VA has cut back on this.  Years ago I had some spots frozen off that were pre cancerous so I've been trying to make sure I haven't had any new problems that I may have missed.  Also, i had a high school friend pass away from Melanoma, so since then I've wanted more checks to make sure I don't have something growing that should be!
