JCD 59 #1 Posted July 23 First off I apologize for not being an electrical guy but I need some step by step help for dummies. I disconnected my fuel line as I was having some problems starting my 312-8, thought it might be an old hose but the hose looks and feels new so I reconnected it and now I can't get my tractor to start at all. I think the fuel pump may be the problem, I'd like to change it out for an electrical one but don't know anything about them, what pump should I get (I'd prefer just to buy one from an auto store and not wait on shipping) and how do I hook up the electronics to turn the pump on when the key is in the run position and off when the key is off. ebinmaine 67,569 #2 Posted July 23 @squonk has a number he can recommend for Napa. I've only hooked up one and I put it to the light circuit on purpose. That way you can't forget it on. Missed one Magneto ignition using a battery type of ignition switch plus a kill relay to control the magneto ignition Careful consideration required to connect an electric fuel pump.. peter lena 8,634 #15 Posted July 24 @JCD personally like the CARBOL electric pumps , also put in a single LED green bulb in the dash to verify it is on / off , you didn't mention cleaning tank or , possible carb fuel bowl packed with debris , very easy to do . between debris in tank , and fuel hose break down , the carb issues can be a regular thing . also have 2 fuel filters on my horses , 1 large filter close to tank , another small one , close to carb . my pump light comes on with key switch start , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Thanks, Jim The hour meter on your 312 has fuse protection and is only powered when the key is on so that is a good source of electrical power for the fuel pump. The pump should be located lower than the fuel tank so it has a positive suction head pressure and doesn't have to suck the fuel. You may want to go ahead and buy the pump along with new hose, clamps and a filter so you can do the job at your convenience rather than when the mechanical pump decides to let you down. 2 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I went back and looked through those threads of yours. Was there a particular reason you chose the location that you did for the fuel pump to set?
