Brake spring

Can anyone tell me where this brake spring attaches to?mine must have broken and I can’t tell where it attaches to.listed on the drawing is part #40.

@Toolmanbill  look carefully at the lower end of , each connection , probably , rust or grass packed small hole , another perfect opportunity , is to LUBRICATE ANY / ALL LINKGE / MOVEMENT POINTS !  like a penetrating oil first / make the rust run out , then an aerosol spray ,extension tube RED GREASE , lots to learn  in related linkage areas , should be easy to move , pete

Spring attaches from the small hole in ratchet (23) to a small hole at the bottom of the dash tower.

This picture is from a B-100 8-speed, looking down through the shift pattern plate. You didn't specify what model you are working with, but this should give you some frame of reference.
