fourwheelhorseman 298 #1 Posted July 19 I just picked this old beast up this evening, man it is beat!!! However I love a good challenge! It needs a deck, the hydro granny is leaking and seems to be stuck in the towing position, it is however all original, cigarette lighter, white plastic switch, even the key. The Tecumseh HH10 spins over. I need a belt gaurd, seat, muffler and other small items. I’m thinking of restoring this one. Thoughts?

fourwheelhorseman 298 #7 Posted July 19 So with the hydro, should I force the valve back over to operating position? It seems pretty stuck.. but I’ve only tried to move it by hand. The transmissions seems leaky, but from where I’m unsure. All the belts are in really good shape. The owner has no idea why it was pulled out of use. It’s been sitting outside for a while so I’ll have my work cut out for me

Get some decent penetrating oil on it and let it set a bit. 4 hours ago, fourwheelhorseman said: The transmissions seems leaky, but from where I’m unsure. Pressure washer treatment would help you there. 4 hours ago, fourwheelhorseman said: I’ll have my work cut out for me No concern. We've done frame off restorations starting with piles of rust shaped approximately like a tractor. We'd do it again too. IMHO... Get it home. Get it running. Get it driving. THEN decide how far to go. None of the above is wasted time prior to a full restoration because everything to get it going would have needed doing.
fourwheelhorseman 298 #9 Posted July 19 It has solid state ignition.. I’ve never worked on that before.

fourwheelhorseman 298 #12 Posted July 19 (edited) That’s the original seat.. which is a crying shame, it’s all original as far as I can tell… but man it’s rough! deck is junk, the hydro is unknown as well as the engine, one rear tire is shot, I may have bit off a little more than I can chew on this one… lol. I’ve actually restored worse than this before. Edited July 19 by fourwheelhorseman

I’ve actually restored worse than this before. You'll be fine. 😀 Carefully check all the wiring. MAKE SURE the ignition switch is correct. You don't want to put power back into the coil on these. fourwheelhorseman 298 #14 Posted July 20 So I’m able to move the tow valve now, however when I turn it to where it is in the operating position it still is easy to push. Keeping in mind that this machine has sat around for well over a decade and the fluid in the transmission is still fairly clean.. what’s left of it, most of it has leaked out. I’m guessing the only way I’m going to really know the condition of the transmission is to get the engine running and simply try it
