snowhound 105 #1 Posted July 18 I have a 417-8 with a series 2 engine that is pushing oil through the points. It has a length of 1/4 gas line that is being used as a breather tube, was like that when I got it, could that be causing the oil issue. If the hour meter is correct it has 2000 hours on it. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,073 #2 Posted July 19 The crankcase should be under a vacuum when running to prevent oil from leaking. The oil fill cap and dipstick must be sealed to accomplish this. There is as much air moved below the piston as there is going through the combustion chamber. The check valve in the breather item #14 lets air out but stops it from returning. wallfish 17,023 #4 Posted July 19 Same guess, check the breather first. There's too much case pressure. But that condition could also be caused by blow-by.
