Poppa Phill 61 #1 Posted July 17 (edited) Grabbed a 522 couple years ago with a bad rear end, 60in deck, and a front end loader. got it rebuilt, but not back in the tractor, couldnt get the help needed to finish it alone. Hence it sat. till my regular mower died a couple months ago .Back to looking for parts again and hit Craigslist an FB market place awash in wheel horse stuff, YES!! 314-A, 520H and a 522Xi. 314 didnt run wouldnt roll, got it, 2 decks and a grader Blade for $450, now it needs a seat all is well. The 520H came with a single stage snow blower, it was steep at $1500, but it is an absolute cherry, New tires, forward swept front axle and runs like New Lastly, 522Xi with rear discharge Mower on market place, $800. Owned by a really nice kid, He dropped his praice during the convo when he saw the Disabled Vet Tags on the truck. After we loaded, he says I got a an old snow blower that dont work but your welcome to it. He comes back dragging this 2 stage blower and the mule hookup as well, I only had another $80 on me but he didnt want it, I made em take it an told him, the blower was worth more than I was paying for the tractor. Odd Thing , he didnt care but I wasnt having it an made em take it I met his dad, another Vet, really great Folks. Met some really nice folks out here searching wheel horse world. This young man Named Brad was a true Gem as was his Dad. Hoorah!!. Edited July 17 by Poppa Phill Proof read and remove excess pics 3 8

You meet some good people looking around at these tractors. I know it's a haul for you to get down south here but you would probably have a great time at the meet and greet in September. Pullstart 62,868 #4 Posted July 17 thank you for your service! Those Xi machines are monsters, you don’t need me telling you that. Make sure to jack up the front end BY THE FRAME and inspect that front axle pivot when it’s suspended. It was the only weak like I’ve found on my Xi thus far. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/92609-xi-series-front-axle-pivot-repair/

peter lena 8,627 #6 Posted July 17 @Poppa Phill agree with others on a great haul ! my immediate thought is to get some spray penetrating lubrication on that dull red paint , spray it down and let it soak for days . that will initially feed the paint , and help pull it out of the grunge stage . having already done that to my stuff , wipe it down wit a clean oiled soft cloth , like a 6" electric palm buffer , cleaner wax , make it look period correct. those snow blower related idler . pulleys , and mount frame should move with penetrating oil lubrication , then red aerosol grease in related movement areas . the easier the mule drive moves the drive set up is what you want , that single stage blower , idler frame , should move with greased ease , also added a stiffer, belt tension spring . improves auger drive . all those dry / rusty areas are a no/ no for me , go oily / greasy , pete

Poppa Phill 61 #8 Posted July 20 Thanks Gents for the comments and suggestions especially on paint restoration. Im a serious wrench head motor an drive train Trainwreck of a Nut case. never worried about paint an trim as I always cared so much about functioning mechanicals etc In the case of these wheel horse units, I have a good 11 x 30 lathe, and auto-feed mill with a 12x40 table, they will be restored and yes the paint too. couple questions, I purchased a 520H mule housing, no pulleys or shaft. I bought a complete unit from A-Z and took it apart, Im thinking I can make a 5 or more of those in a day and shelve em unless someone here already doing it, seems to be very hard to find them and Good Lord the price tags will gimme another aneurysm !! Mower Deck spindles ? are the bearings still available for spindles? Is anyone here making any ? when I came home to Ohio back in the 80s, Pops mower deck was down. I went to Akron Bearing an got everything needed, swapped em out all was well..I havent seen anything but used units since I started down the wabbit hole. Issues Ive found so far. the 314-A doesnt roll in neutral, gear oil and drive oil both clean so maybe this winter break it down and clean it up unless you guys know where I can find that gremlin. Carb replaced , old one rebuilt and shelved. Zero other issues, 522xi has a charging issue, ordered a couple regulators and plan on putting a metter on it later this morning. 2 stage blower missing pulleys on the transition boxx on one side, buth pulley box shields rotted out, rear frame supports were not given so Im guessing the kid didnt have em and knew nothing about there existence, gonna make em, easy enough. begs another question anyone have a pic of the 520H 2 stage pulley setup? spare 42in side discharge deck missing the hanger cage, got one off ebay $115 shipped. All decks needed blades got em an installed. all of em tested and cut like a Barber. Downside, I can HEAR the spindle bearings on the 60in and the side disc 42. Rear discharge 42in unit sounds ok. All I got for now, Looking forward to meeting all of ya one time or Nother!! God Bless an Play Safe!!

Parts availability is pretty good on most things but as we all know there are some items that just aren't common in the first place and/or aren't being replaced with new as they wear out. @76c12091520h Brian Badman would be a good one to ask about availability. As to your machine shop availability I remember discussing the possibilities of custom parts and services with people in the past. Personally I believe it's always great to have multiple options for getting the work done that one can't do or doesn't have the tools for. I have sent trailer spindles half-way across the country so I can have a Redsquare member drill them instead of overpaying local shops.

I have a Two Stage Tall Chute Snowblower that we've had set up for a few minutes on a 1975 C160 Automatic for testing. We then moved it to a 1984 GT1800. It's not on a machine right now. If I can get pics of something let me know.

If you have the hydro, it might be rolled very slowly by putting the motion control in a forward position but, frankly, you risk damaging the hydro. These transmissions’ internals don’t have the same bypass plumbing that the 1100’s do and were not intended to be pushed. Forcing it to roll is not a good idea. Easiest is to put both rear wheels on skates so you can push it around. That said, a working 700 is a perfectly good hydro for mowing and blowing and light towing but NOT strong enough for dozer plowing or blade grading. Key to understanding this is that a 700 can convey only about 5 horsepower to the wheels vs, the 1100 that can convey ~15 or so. Mowing and blowing implements are driven directly off the PTO and moving the tractor isn’t very taxing! Edited July 20 by Handy Don
