International Red vs Regal Red

Does anyone know if these two are the same shade of red? They look the same wet but was wondering if they still did after curing? Ran out of Regal Red but know I can find the International red local...... I'm pretty sure I bought the last two cans of Regal Red that wally world had...

I can't answer the question about comparing IHC to Regal but just as a point of information, we've pretty much stopped buying paint at physical stores. HD, lowe's, W Mart. All sell online at the same price and will deliver to your door whether the stores locally have it in stock or not.

 

I do still use one of my local hardware stores if I only need a can or two but doing a tractor restoration takes a dozen or more.

Yeah that's usually what I do but was caught with my britches down lol. I just need a couple cans to finish.

Sounds like you have some test patches drying.  Speed up the drying with a heat gun or hair dryer, you will have your answer in 5-10 minutes.

I would switch horses in mid stream and not worry about it abit. Maybe a trailer queen i would try and stay with the same paint. However a 701 I just finished I did the frame' tranny and small parts in regal rattle but the sheet metal got Van Sickle in IH red out of a gun. Only difference is the amount of gloss to my eyeball. Even the lightest layer of dust no way can you tell.

sprayed a bent lawn mower blade on each end and left out in the sun, so will look at it this afternoon..

This is the way I'm leaning. I can get the Int. red at the local TSC and so far to my eye it looks the same as the regal red.

So far looks good, perfect no, but haven't spent a whole lot of time on it... By the time the nephews and nieces get it dirty a time or too it will match everything else I got lol....

I like the double heat shields, is the heat difference in the two much?

A LOT LESS HEAT my white hairy legs. Hence the air gap. The use air gap heat shields on all sorts of applications.

Yeah, side by side and close up you can see the difference, but from any distance? 

I think the double shield is a great idea, kudos to you. I nearly ruined a vacation once by burning the inside of my leg on the muffler shield of a rented moped. NOT a fun event.

Just to give you an idea how much difference that makes.

In the world of wood stove installation, if you install a non-shielded older stove you have to be 36 inches minimum from combustible materials. 

If you correctly install a shield like sheet metal you can be 12 inches from combustible materials.

Did this with our wood stove install and covered the metal with ceramic tile for good looks. Using heat probe to measure temps showed no place against the inner wall at temp greater than 120º after hours of running the stove and having the infrared tile surface measure at hottest spot showing ~250º. Having the measurements to support the theory let my validly concerned spouse accept it was safe and relax. The space between the shield and the wall has air constantly flowing due to convection--maintenance involves annual vacuuming to remove dust and cobwebs!.

 When i was a youngster I used to plow tobacco and mow quite a bit with the little 550 I still own, learned real quick you better not wear short sleeved britches with said tractor, and it had the original heat shield still in place.

Just to follow up my test results mirrored squonks' picture with the int red a little lighter or maybe not as red if that makes any sense lol.

I will point out that my favorite red is what some of the recent Mazdas are wearing. Deep and vibrant. It’s called “Soul Red Crystal”. Multiple base and clear coats.

Agreed. It’s the color I like, but not with the idea that it should be on a worker tractor!

I cannot imagine the effort and expense to get a paint job like that on a tractor only to have it worked the way I work mine and get dinged and scratched.

All my Horses have a task..They get dirty scratched etc.  Any red is better than rust brown

I do not have a separate paint department, it is I...and I do not like painting so repaint is out of the question...
