bloomfieldt 1 #1 Posted July 15 Have a 414 with a blown engine. Wondering about putting a predator 8hp engine on it for snow plowing only. Any thoughts?
ebinmaine 67,415 #2 Posted July 15 I can't honestly say I'm a huge fan of those HF imported engines. Have you looked into finding a good used Kohler in your area? Anything from a 10 to 16 would fit.
SylvanLakeWH 25,527 #3 Posted July 15 I have put two 212 cc predators on C-85 / 105 frames... easy. Just need to clearly note front pulley location and make mounting spacers so engine pulley / belt lines up... I used for cruising, trailer and plowing snow... no issues.

Light to moderate snow on mostly level paved surfaces and I think 8hp would be ok. Predators are pretty light so not a lot of momentum in the flywheel. Heavy snow or hills or rough surfaces might be more challenging. I like @ebinmaine’s idea of a Kohler transplant -- even an 9hp Kohler would give you a pretty strong setup. squonk 41,066 #5 Posted July 15 I have a 8HP Kohler on the shelf and probably by your name aren't far from you. 1

I tested the stator but don't remember the exact voltage but I know it was good. I do not have a charging system on the stand. Yes this engine was on a tractor with the heat sink style regulator Edited July 15 by squonk

Yes this engine was on a tractor with the heat sink style regulator I was just curious. The S/G on my K181 is 15 amps (and I have NO electrical accessories at all 😁) but I know that some stators have fewer coils than others so are in the 3-5 amp range. Thanks Edited July 15 by Handy Don

Goldnboy 910 #10 Posted July 15 You will need to change the drive pulley since the predator has a 1" shaft.
