screech 16 #1 Posted July 7 My recent WheelHorse's carburator has thick, brown, hard crap in the bowl and I am guessing on the inner parts. I have tried several cleaners on the thick brown crap in the bowl and nothing will clean it. What do I need? I want to soak the whole carburator in some type of cleaner. I have seen Wayyn's products but I can not find a place around here or online that sells their products. Thank You.

lynnmor 7,322 #4 Posted July 7 First try soaking it in gasoline before buying expensive cleaners. I usually do that and then spray small passages with a can of carburetor cleaner.

A lot of times that crap is dry alcohol.

My go to is nasty oridinal formula oven cleaner. But is wrecks soft metal parts,,,like a carburator!

But lately I've switched to using lacquer thinner. You MUST get all the non metal parts out. Some carbs that's not possible. Carter, Walbro and Kohler carbs are usually OK to do this. I've been pretty impressed with the results of lacquer thinner in my ultrasonic cleaner.

OoPEZoO 525 #13 Posted July 8 I'm a big fan of the ultrasonic cleaner. I've put everything in it from hot water, degreaser, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, mineral spirits, alcohol.....it all depends on what i'm cleaning, but the I'm a huge fan of the ultrasonic cleaner in general. For cleaning carbs, I usually just use the concentrated heavy duty simple green but mix it on the strong side. It has never let me down
Pullstart 62,954 #14 Posted July 8 @Wild Bill 633 why the long face? If you saw the end of the video, the paint was like slime and just rubbed clean. It worked great in my mind…
squonk 41,172 #15 Posted July 8 The good old days of Carb cleaner back in the 70's and 80's. If you stood over that gallon of cleaner and marveled at how clean the carb was, the fumes would burn the hair off of your carcass! I remember cleaning an electronic Quadrejet in the 15 gal carb cleaning machine we had. One of the metering needles was small enough to fit thru one of the holes in the basket. I had to "fish it out of there. My arm was red and blistered for over a month! 1
