rmaynard 15,434 #4 Posted July 5 Hopefully Lowell has made some changes to his 701 dashes. The one that I got had several problems. The plastic around the hole for the ignition switch was too thick. The four holes to attach it did not line up with the threaded holes in the tank. And the plastic used needs some UV protection. Mine turned very dark in only one year, and most of that time it was inside the building. Glen Pettits dash installed in 2012. Lowells dash after one year I know Lowell was experimenting with different materials. I hope that mine was just a one-off. I did modify it to accommodate the switch, elongated the mounting holes, and before bringing it to the big show this year, I bead-blasted it and sprayed with an anti-UV clear coat. 7 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Must not be a UV related problem UV resist may not be 100% plus the material might be highly sensitive to UV. Or it just ages due to atmospheric chemistry and outgassing of the plastic! I dont know if he was having health problems or something else was going on but just forgot about it after I couldn't get a hold of him. wheelhorsepartsandmore makes one out of aluminum that looks like the original plastic one (cost a little more $100) but thats probally what I would have went with if I had known about them before making this one.. 1 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I had gotten some of those plastic hub covers with the horse head on them for a dump cart. They sat outside and they turned from red to almost white. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The aluminum one wheelhorsepartsandmore sells looks just like the original ones but wouldnt have to worry about warpage and uv light but I understand where your coming from.
