I've been into the hydro transaxles recently, But actually I have been in the wheelhorse manual transmission when I was about 13 or 14 years old, which was about 16 years ago. I learned everything from this site. Take your sweet time pulling the hubs. I've had one fight me for two WEEKS. AlexR 627 #29 Posted July 21 Getting the engine back together from getting the exhaust valve unstuck and cleaned up, set the clearances on the valves. Got new coil, new spark plug, new air filter. New gas lines shutoff and filter. All that's left to get it started up is the wiring. I did get the exhaust out used bunch of pb blaster after that I heated it up, then I used a 10' galvanized 2" steel pipe on a pipe wrench. Just letting the weight of the pipe do the work. I am leaning towards doing a lowered custom the whole front axle spindles and steering are all loose. My other Wheelhorses aren't tight but this one is worse. So I am thinking of doing a custom front suspension and possibly front brakes. I'll see once I get it running, I'll drive it around a bit see how everything is doing as is. AlexR 627 #30 Posted July 23 Its a runner now. I neglected to take photos while it was out. I just did a quick wiring job to get it running. And got stainless steel pipe for the exhaust. Before I even tried starting it I cleaned and set the points at .020 But it wasn't starting checked the spark and no spark. Ended up changing out the points with another used set that I had and that fixed it. Tried starting again and it pretty much started right up. I have a little bit of sputtering, I tried adjusting the carb a little bit and got it better but I haven't touched the carb other then taking the bowl off to make sure it wasn't all cruddy and then blasted it with some carb cleaner. So that will need some more work. I had the belt come off the idler pulley when driving it around took the belt guard off and got that back on but everything is so shot on this machine the idler is bad, there is no lining on the brake band. But the brake pulley is shot too it has a bad lip on the outside of the brake. And the steering is awful too. The good is the transmission goes in all the gears (hi and low) and it seems smooth enough. And the engine seems to be ok as well. 4 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

AlexR 627 #32 Posted November 19 (edited) This tractor has just been sitting this whole time, I haven't forgotten about it. But it will be sitting for a while longer at least until spring, but it is in a dry safe place. I have decided to do a restoration on it, instead of hot rodding it. Not a completely full blown one as I am still planning use it as a worker. I want to get it mechanically working well again and get a full repaint, I will try to do a fairly good rattle can job, might even sand the primer haha. We will have to see how carried away I get. I would love to get a loader for it, but it would have to be the right price which I know is hard to come by. I might build one but that is definitely a down the road project.
