The only wire on a 701 that runs to the front of the engine is the wire to the coil. You can run it with your fuel line under the flywheel cover where it will be out of danger.
Achto 27,565 #4 Posted June 26 One note - you will not be able to use the original 701 starter solenoid. The factory solenoid uses a negative signal to power the magnetic switch. You will need to replace it with a newer solenoid that uses positive power to power up the magnetic switch.
Pullstart 62,834 #5 Posted June 26 There are two ways to handle this successfully. If you are sure you don’t know what you’re doing, I’d suggest keeping to the original wiring diagram and not changing switch styles.
Keaton 435 #6 Posted June 26 I re wired most of my 701 last year when I got it I was 13, someone put a cub cadet solinoid on it and I just color coated the digraham and went off that, it works, but, I just kept the original push button and got a on/off switch from Menards, because the plastic dash on mine was ruined, I put a diamond plate dash on mine, and I just have a 2 prong on.off switch and the original push button, o dont have any pictures of it now, I don't know if this will help any erither, but good luck. Tucker 701 1 #7 Posted June 26 Ok I kind of wanted to just keep a key switch since it was wired you like that back in the day but got torn apart
Tucker 701 1 #8 Posted June 26 Do you have some pictures of it and where you ran you wires so they don't melt
rmaynard 15,434 #9 Posted June 26 If you are using just a high amperage switch, it will have to be wired with 6 gauge wire. You won't have to worry about that melting.

That will work fine as is. Tucker 701 1 #11 Posted June 27 I am keep in all of it original motor and all
Tucker 701 1 #12 Posted June 27 What I meant my melting is like there has to be a wire connection to the ignition coil and I was wondering where to run it so it don't melt.
rmaynard 15,434 #13 Posted June 27 You can run it anywhere that it doesn't directly touch the exhaust pipe or muffler. Most 14 or 16 gauge automotive wires are good to about 300 f. degrees.

I think what I will do is just go buy a button and the switch to make it easier and I won't have to guess where stuff goes

953 nut 55,183 #16 Posted June 27 I would run the fuel hose and the ignition coil wire below the fan shroud on your engine keeping them both out of harms way.
rmaynard 15,434 #17 Posted June 27 (edited) Just my two-cents worth. The 701 wiring is pretty simple as it is. I am not sure that I understand why you want to alter it. Mine has been working perfectly for 63 years. Edited June 27 by rmaynard

Tucker 701 1 #20 Posted June 28 I ran the wire on the side of the engine but I think I am going to go under the fan shroud just so it don't melt
Tucker 701 1 #21 Posted June 29 I found the starter button part but don't know where to find the other switch
