ANTPER 207 #1 Posted June 22 (edited) Hi I'm getting drive belt slap with clutch pedal pressed down. It slaps the belt guard shield that is bolted to the bottom of right foot rest. Belt looks in great condition. It drives around great no slip detected. I'm gonna give up my struggle on diagnosis and just replace the belt as I don't know of any adjustments on a drive belt. Lee1977 6,656 #2 Posted June 22 (edited) When you have it apart check the clutch shaft, there may be wear in the frame causing extra belt loosen. Ed Kennell 38,129 #5 Posted June 22 Yeah, the belt does vibrate a bit as the engine pulley touches and releases the belt. Should not be a problem for the tractor, just an irritation for the operator. ANTPER 207 #6 Posted June 22 I've owned quite a few 310s and never had one slapping like this slap. I wish there was a way to raise the lower belt keeper tang that's bolted to engine up towards belt closer. That would most likely help. I've thought about installing a spacer plate between the foot rest and shield so belt can't reach shield to slap it. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Well I should just done this instead of struggling with this slap noise. I threw the towel in and replace the belt and boom all set. I just couldn't sell something making that noise. peter lena 8,608 #8 Posted June 27 @ANTPER in addition to having the correct belt , would get after related linkage response to spring pull , seen so many rusty / dry movement points , another thing is the original type of idler pulley , with the tiny bearing , replaced all of mine , with same size pulley , larger bearing , which I regreased , and bushed to a 3/8 " bolt mount point , you can always paint it red , smooth / easy quiet . regular penetrating oil , to every spring pull point , pete 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Ed, can you read & give me the numbers & make of the belt on your tractor in this video please, or is it the same one shown in 2 posts above this one? I suggest you closely inspect all three pulleys in the loop. Look for something stuck deep in the VEE of the engine or transmission pulleys. I have found small stones and twigs imbedded in the pulleys that cause a belt to bounce. Another cause can be a bad bearing in the tension pulley or a worn hole in the frame that supports the idler cross shaft or a weak spring that tensions the idler . I should add that a new belt will slap until it is used and stretched enough to remove the memory of the bends caused by the folds from the long storage in the packaging sleeves. This is especially true with the heavier wrapped 5/8" drive belts. You can see some of this in the belt in my video. Funny, when I ran it with the cover off & watching the belt jumping & wiggling around, I started thinking maybe I should check the front & rear pulley alignment also since it appeared to have a slight side ti side wobble, and I have no idea what the guy I got it from maybe did or didn't do to it, so maybe he had one or both of the pulleys off at some point & the alignment could be a bit off, because I only get the noises with the covers in place.
