Simplecity 22 #1 Posted June 20 Good Day In the process of correcting 60 years of grief that was inflicted on the 857, My question concerns the trip lever that engages/disengages the mower deck. Apparently the original spring was retired at some point and a hardware spring and eyebolt where installed. I know that one end of the spring attaches to the trip lever pivot, but where does the other end attach to? Pics would be awesome. Thanks to all who respond. Racinbob 11,081 #3 Posted June 20 Kinda hard to see but the pedal end of the spring is hooked to a cotter pin. The backside pin that it's hooked to goes down from the top like the one on this side thereby providing spring loading for the trip lever.
Simplecity 22 #5 Posted June 21 Thanks to all who responded. I get how it attaches to the trip lever. Is it an eyebolt through the frame that anchors it? Here are the pics of how it looks now:
Racinbob 11,081 #6 Posted June 21 (edited) I'm not sure if they originally used an eyebolt. It may have just hooked to the frame. In either case it doesn't matter. Your problem lies in how you have it connected to the pedal end. Edited June 21 by Racinbob
peter lena 8,627 #7 Posted June 21 @Simplecity done a lot of , attachment related , detailing / function . always find an issue at belt driven pulley area , bearing is usually related culprit, also sloppy linkage , not snug , zero lubrication. interesting in that having had my attachment issues , once totally firmed up , regularly verified for function , the engagement is effortless / solid smooth . take the time to study , INTENDED function , then detail in starting point . @Racinbob noting your slightly loaded spring , is key to having a leverage start engagement . always go after every connection point , to enhance the engagement . washers, lube , evey hand off must continue its start .pull , pete
