Clutch won't run through switch

Recommended Posts

Steverino

I have a '70 GT14 that I cannot get the clutch to engage through the switch. It works when I hook the clutch up directly to the battery (with an on/off switch in between). I have replaced the switch, the ignition switch and the solenoid. I am also unable to get the lights or lighter to work.

I have a wiring diagram and the wires show continuity, what could I be doing wrong? What am I missing?

Any help?

You have to get the lights and lighter working. That circuit also powers 1/2 of the pto switch and pto.

The one side of the pto switch is the starter circuit They don't want the pto engaged when starting the tractor. Safety feature.

Flip the switch and the pto should be powered. In this position the starter will not work.

Good to know, it appears that I will need to get the lights switch replaced. I'll follow up once I get that replaced.

The light switch is not necessary. It is powered by the same wire as the pto switch half. My thought was if you get the lights working it will likely correct the pto.

Thanks for the help, I got it all to work. I had to replace the fused wire for the accessories and the 2 pole switch, along with 3 light bulbs.

Thanks again.

:WRS:

Look around for a fuse holder with the '70s style glass fuse holder. My '70 GT-14 had two of them, one for lights and the other for the PTO.
