keitholdcar 17 #27 Posted June 26 I have a 12 automatic that's been on this property since new.(dads tenant bought it new).A few years ago I picked up a 14 automatic. I put tires on it and got it going, but never use it.I just bought it because it was a virtual twin to my 12.Both came equipped new with 48 inch decks, always seemed strange that those automatic tractors came new with big decks and my C-160 8 speed came with a 42 inch deck.I'm sure the dealer assembled them with whatever the customer wanted. Racinbob 11,050 #29 Posted June 26 Actually, on the garden tractors, the decks were like any other attachment. It's a separate line item. The dealer would often install a deck for the showroom or advertising but it still was a line item. When I purchased a new GT-1100 in 1984 it was on the floor with a 42" deck. I simply asked them to remove it since I had a spare 48" for it.
keitholdcar 17 #30 Posted June 26 I put a 42 inch rear discharge on my wifes 12 automatic.I aquired a nearly new 36 inch rear discharge from a friend, and I put that on hers for a while. She tends to catch things wider than the wheels. Some people don't like the rear discharge, that's why I have picked up three with little or no use on them.I like them, for my use there has been no downside to them.

The tractor itself is a monster. Don’t let it’s “mower” appearance scare you, it’s practically a truck frame under that thick sheet metal.

I always get the “skeptical eyebrows” when I talk to people about my 522xi, but they change their tune once I pop the hood and they get a look at the frame. Those 5xi series look like cheap big box store plastic garbage from a distance. it’s a real shame. Once you start working on one, you realize how beefy they actually are. Damn fine tractors that never got to evolve. 2
AHS 1,440 #35 Posted June 27 @rjg854 How did you put those wheels on there? Take off the shoes that were on the originally, did you use one of the holes that were for the shoes?

I used the skid plate as a pattern and had Bill, my welder guy, make a plate with the same bolt hole arrangement and added a post to attach the wheel. I can still adjust the wheels for up and down height adjustment. 1
