May want to consider the auger support.

Jim - how do you make up one of these auger supports? Is that just flat stock? Does anybody have any closer pictures or drawings?

Should I not be?

Yes...The rear gearbox is sealed and doesn't require  much attention. I opened mine up just to check for water and flush but really didn't need to. Replace the seals and 90 wt.

The big thing with deuces is the rear impeller shaft bearing. I don't remember if it was a re-lube bearing or not. Check it for slop and noise. Very common bearing and easy to replace if the housing and tunnel are split.

The front gearbox should not be greased. The gears are brass and will wear if not seeing 90 weight. The rear seal will blow right out if over greased with a gun. I would disassemble that one and replace with a pipe plug. Seals are on parts tree. Always thought corn head grease would be a good lube for it.

Get the manual lots of good poop in that.

Yes flat and a piece of angle. Notched a plate to bolt to the gearbox.  Rest is bolted on.

I'll get some better pics.

Here's a couple of mine.    Not a WH, but the same idea.      This is a gear box support, but also a splitter thet is bent so it is exactly in the center of the housing and auger.

@WHX?? ive got a parts 2 stage with 85% of the parts and a working 2 stage. I can’t believe how rugged WH made these snowblowers! I had to use a hand truck to get it off my trailer!

I've never weighed one but they've got to be 250 lb, 275 maybe.

Serviced my 2 stage this past Winter. Used gear oil on the front gearbox. On the rear one removed the 4 screws on the cover and packed it with corn head grease.  @WHX??

I thought Ed said they go over 300? Another good mod is real outboard auger bearings & rubber paddles.

Corn head on the rear gear box only. That appeared what was in there. Bought it from the original owner with next to no hours on it. The front gear box had gear oil when I bought it.  @WHX??  Did not really use it this past Winter.

We better have snow like we did back in the 90’s!! 1 1/2’ per time and it better be 20 degrees when it snows outside!! Ya right!! Ok, so corn head grease in the rear of the blower? Where to get corn head grease…tractor supply?

Google "john deere corn head grease" and select a vendor.

Bought it at the JD dealer local to me @AHS while I was there picking up fluids and filters for the JD tractor.

After seeing how corn head grease works, I think it would work well in the auger gear box. I may give it a try.

Ok, never mind! Wow, it stays like a grease in normal temperatures, but moves to an oil once spun.

We used a similar grease in the perfect binder at work called Ossigol. The German service techs called it "flow grease". Unfortunately, I can't get it now as I've retired.

They’re using corn head grease in warmer temperatures, i wonder about 0 degrees! I always start my single stage snowblower at 1/2 throttle, lube the chain while it’s spinning. I would guess its the same way for the 2 stage, let the 0 degree grease start spinning.

Good deal!! Less than 1000 rpm and good till -30F! Sounds like it was made for it… except it has the name JD attached to it!
