AHS 1,440 #1 Posted June 15 I got a. 2 stage snowblower…in June!! For cheap money!! Im in search of a user guide / manual for it. It’s in good shape for a. 2 stage, in ME!! It’s got a little wear in the shute, but that can be painted. Im excited to use it on the C175 or the well used 520! The gear box is newer, with a grease fitting! Ok, i have surmised, that they use 5/16” x 3” long grade 2 or 5 for shear pins? It’s came with a 520 extension bar. Do I have all the parts? I believe so! They are a lot different to hook up than one with a single stage! 2
ebinmaine 67,502 #2 Posted June 15 Niiiiice!! I'm looking forward to trying ours out too! Here's a couple videos I found about installation. All credit to the original producer.
WHX?? 48,815 #3 Posted June 15 (edited) Manual & IPL should find here. Search in files with model. Never saw one with the zerk before. Good luck with her and to the deuce club! May want to consider the auger support. Edited June 15 by WHX?? 3
ebinmaine 67,502 #4 Posted June 15 @AHS Check the chain and its tensioner carefully. Some were wood. Some were a (plastic/nylon?). I changed mine to a gear. It was a wicked tight challenge but doable. If that wears out I'd go back to the original for ease of installation. Here's a video showing that chain. It's tough to see the tensioner but it's in there below the chain. 4

It is to have a pipe plug and you remove it to add 90 weight gear oil. 3
peter lena 8,627 #8 Posted June 15 @ ahs, nice looking unit , would get after ROTATIONAL MOVEMENT EASE DETAILING , especially the double idler belt pulley area, those pulleys are easy easily , upgraded on lubrication . pop off side shields , clean out , spray clean , repack with 550+ deg chassis lube / also snug up lubricate related linkage connection areas . picked up one years back , rusty , rough to little movement , easily spun by hand , when sold , lubricate RELATED CHUTE flow points , mineral oil rub down , save paint / stop rust , only if you want to , pete
AHS 1,440 #9 Posted June 15 @WHX?? where would i get the auger support?
ri702bill 8,322 #10 Posted June 15 Nice!! Do a bit of research to see if the auger pins are supposed to be bolts, Ariens shear bolts have 2 undercuts on them to define the shear points - regular bolts do not.
Red-Bovine 309 #11 Posted June 15 I'm still running our 30 YO 44" two stage. Runs Great on our 520H. We bought an X730 JD tractor for lawn and yard work and considered a cab and blower for it, but the JD snow blowers have been troublesome and not well made for JD product. Keeping the 520H and blower for snow removal. 5

Ours has sure been changing the last 12 to 15 years. Used to be 3 to 5 degrees cooler here than my hometown in north central MA. Nowadays it's often the opposite. We still get a few good snow events per season for sure.
c-series don 8,707 #15 Posted June 15 You’re going to love it, it’s one of my favorite attachments. I’d recommend you start looking for a cab! Mine is mounted on a 417-A, I love the sound of that twin cylinder Kohler under a load! 7

Red-Bovine 309 #17 Posted June 15 The Cab is awesome. I think we may have gotten the last new one from Original Cabs, but people do sell some good used ones.
mrc 812 #18 Posted June 16 the 2 stagers are great. i think you might find that once installed it becomes a dedicated snow machine.
c-series don 8,707 #19 Posted June 16 That’s what mine is, my 417 was used to mow commercially and has a little over a thousand hours on it. So this is kinda like a retirement job for it, seeing only a few hours a year of work. I put the blower and cab on over ten years ago and never took them off.
AHS 1,440 #20 Posted June 16 Ok, so on to the second gear box. This one has a leak from the pulley. The spot in the front (lower left) is where your supposed to to put 80W90? Why cant i just put a grease fitting on there? Keep it full on grease!

Can’t wait to put the 2 stage on! I, also love to hear them Kohlers bark underneath a load!!
ebinmaine 67,502 #22 Posted June 16 7 minutes ago, AHS said: Why cant i just put a grease fitting on there? If it's spec'd for 80W90 there's a particular reason the original manufacturer set that. Grease is very likely not fluid enough to move over all the metal parts and won't properly lubricate.

Correct?
ebinmaine 67,502 #24 Posted June 16 1 minute ago, AHS said: But, oil leaks out of it; and you cant get them gearboxes anymore? Correct? The seals are replaceable. If the oil leaks and the grease doesn't... that's because grease isn't moving. Non moving grease is also not lubricating all the parts.
AHS 1,440 #25 Posted June 18 @WHX?? In my mind, I am overly cautious about using the 2 stage. Should I not be? The rear gearbox is what im concerned about! I’m going to use the correct shear pins. Fill it with the correct gear oil. Is there anything else I should do? I am gonna do the most that i can to preserve it, while using it.
