Raccoons luv eggs and will put up a pretty good scrap for an omelet.     Is that under a hawk nest tree?

Unh - aren't hawks protected?  - like possetion of a feather can get one in trouble?

Might have been a fox, too.

Birds of prey...  will prey on birds...  so that could have been another hawk or owl as well.

I believe the nest is about 40 yards down a fence row, the tree above the feathers is rather bare.  Haven’t seen a raccoon in a long time.  Small birds often fight the hawks to save their nests but I never seen any do more than harass the hawk till it moves on.  Whatever happened, I won’t miss the squawking things.

No law against picking up a feather from the ground. I have a couple eagle feathers that I have found.

Course I've heard hawk & eagle taste just like spotted owl. :ychain: :D

It's against the law and federal law to be in the possession of bird of prey feather or parts unless you are native American used in ceremonies.
