Also vacuum line needs to be good behind the pump.

cleat 6,100 #4 Posted June 12 It just goes to a nipple in the block behind the fuel pump. Can you blow air through the fuel line back into the tank ?
cleat 6,100 #5 Posted June 12 It just goes to a nipple in the block behind the fuel pump. Can you blow air through the fuel line back into the tank ? Sometimes I find it helps to blow into the fuel tank while cranking the engine to prime the pump. You need to be a contortionist but it Sometimes helps. davidherbert0007@gmail.co 1 #6 Posted June 12 I'll check the line from the nipple to the pump
squonk 41,171 #7 Posted June 12 You may have a clogged screen in the tank.
953 nut 55,394 #8 Posted June 12 You may want to remove the fuel hose from the pump and place it in a container lower than the fuel tank. You should have good gravity flow. Once the line is full of gas then connect it to the pump. Fuel pumps are good pushers but they suck at sucking.
lynnmor 7,322 #9 Posted June 12 Yes, the place to start is at the petcock in the bottom of the gas tank. The fuel pump is more correctly called a pulse pump since it uses the pulsing pressure changes in the engine crankcase to operate the diaphragm. That pulse line should be changed when the gas lines are changed.
