Kelsey 91 #5 Posted June 12 Ended up buying a GATES B79 21/32" x 82" belt at a local NAPA (32 bucks and change). That certainly was an entertaining afternoon working on that WH. Nothing wrong with some physical therapy to set things right. About 10 inches or so to the right of the clutch pulley, when I gently pushed down on the old belt it flexed at least 2 inches. In the same spot, the new belt may flex about 1/2 inch. Thanks again, Kelsey

Thanks again, Kelsey UPDATE: Although I installed this belt that day, I got preoccupied with other duties in my life. Today, I started up the wheelboy and all kind of problems started at the same time. Mind you this all took place within 30 seconds or so. The belt started smoking and I couldn't place it in 1st gear low because the gears were grinding. I shut the tractor right off. (I can proudly say in the 38 years I've owned my wife's wheel horse, I've always taken my time and gently put the tractor in gear. This all due to the Wheel Horse dealer who showed me how to place it in gear when I bought our 1974 C-100 from him.) It appeared the drive belt's height was causing the problem because it was rubbing on the idler pulley assembly. I took the belt off and put the old one back on without any problems. Also, I returned the belt to CarQuest and not to NAPA as I originally typed. I learned my lesson instead of being lazy, I'll just visit the local Toro dealer and pay the premium price for parts. I'll let you know how it goes. Kelsey

The belt should not be moving when the clutch is depressed. Here is a video of a 310-8 Idler pulley and belt operation. Kelsey 91 #8 Posted June 22 Today, I called the local Toro dealer and they said," It'll be next Thursday (46 bucks and change). Let me call you back if I need to. I just remembered that I had a drive belt from my dismantled C-100. Ten minutes later, the donor belt was in. Now, you remember the Mounds candy commercial jingle? Sometimes you feel for a nut, some- times you don't. I substituted the name dolt in place of nut. Sometimes I feel like a dolt.... keep reading. I stood back and went through my mental check list. It finally dawned on me that the drive belt was under the running board/brake pedal support. By now, I'm getting pretty good at taking this apart and putting it back together. Finally, I started it up without any problem. The 1st belt must have been under the support. I panicked too quickly when it wouldn't go into gear along with the smoke. Also, I didn't do a mental check list. I tend not to think clearly when I'm in 90' weather tinkering on a WH tractor. I still enjoyed myself through it all. 1
