The Harvest

I post a lot of pics of my Amish neighbor farming with his seven Belgium horses.  Today was barley harvest day for the big corporate farmer.   His operation always draws a crowd.

Several of us watched for a couple hours as dozens of rabbits and a few deer escaped.

    One deer kept coming back to an area that had been cut.  When she left the field alone, we assumed her new fawn had been hit by the machine.

 

After they finished, I rode to the other end of the field and saw this hen with 10-12 poults.   I herded them out of the field into the woods as a big planter was all ready replanting the field with soybeans.

 

Look close and see a few of the poults about as big as a sparrow..

 

On the way back home as I passed the area that the doe kept returning to,   there stood the doe and her fawn.   It must have been laying in a depression allowing the combine to pass over its head.

Now, that’s a machine!  What’s that, like 700 horses?  And who doesn’t like a happy ending?  It’s incredible the fawn escaped that thing.  Thanks for sharing an uplifting story.  Always appreciated.

Back at it finishing the soybean planting this morning.     No sign of the hen and her poults or the doe and her fawn.

 

Quite a contrast between my two farming neighbors.

2018 was aside when the Fields after we be walked thru fields for fawn saving, sadly one fawn was overseen and mowed.

i Started to invest nearly 2800$ for my Thermal cam Drone Prototype. Achieved flight time 12 min.

 

2019 first prototype Drone flight ahead of the Mowing with a thermal camera 55 flights - no fawn mowed.

5 battery‘s passed after too extended flights and lot‘s of troubles while flight with the remote.

invest 500$

2020 improved my Thermal Drone with better batterys for longer flight time. 40 Flights - no fawn mowed.

invest 800$

2021 first Prototype Drone crashes close to the end of the 35. flight - free fall out of 70m height. - no fawn mowed.

Drone was crashed completely after i found it. Invest again 3500$ for new Thermal Cam with much higher resolution

- bought me a new and smaller Drone with 20 min. Continousely Flight time, new Thermal Module better Transmitter,

10 packs Batteries for extending my Airtime - 5 more Fields to fly.

2022 5 batt packs corrupted because of too extended flights ( return to home) - no fawns mowed.

2023 another 4 Batterys passed, invest again 400$ for batteries with offered longer flighttime. - no fawns mowed.

2024 until now again 4 Batterypacks passed but until now - no fawns mowed.

 

have to invest this year again few hundrets for batterypacks. - is this sensefully?

for me yes, each fawn have hopefully a great live.

 

It‘s expensive and i do it completely volunteer, but i enjoy my results.

 While watching the barley harvest yesterday, I noticed the black raspberries were ripe.    So, today was a picker day.

 

 

Then I found this new member of the pasture herd.
