MSBiker 46 #1 Posted June 11 I am struggling to remove a leaking axle seal on my Lawn Ranger. Now that I have it tore up good trying to remove it, I have to replace it now. Anybody have a good method short of tearing down the transmission? I assume this seal is original to the machine. It is really stuck in there.
ebinmaine 67,500 #2 Posted June 11 Is this the same basic transmission as the larger models?

I use a 1/4 blade flat screwdriver 🪛 about 8" to 10" long. The length makes it easier for ME to work around the axle. I pretty much do a smash crunch crush around the outside of the seal where it meets the transmission case. You're removing the seal. Not trying to save it. It'll rotate some but that doesn't matter. Eventually the seal will loosen up and keep rotating. Just slide the seal right off the axle at that point.
MSBiker 46 #5 Posted June 11 (edited) Thanks, I've be jambing picks into the seal and trying to hook the edge with no joy. I will sharpen up a flat blade screwdriver and see if I can get it between the body and the housing. Edited June 11 by MSBiker
stevasaurus 22,740 #6 Posted June 11 (edited) Remember that the seal is only 1/8" thick. Don't dig too deep. Edited June 11 by stevasaurus 2
