Duals or no duals?

Recommended Posts

c-series don

So as some of you know, I recently finished restoring my C-175. During the restoration I sandblasted, primed and painted four deep dish rims and added 23 X 10.50-12 ag tires. In anticipation of adding dual wheels I did a little mock up on my C-165 to see how it would look and to make sure I had the cleats on the tires lined up. Yes that would bother me if they didn’t line up! I understand that in the real world staggering the cleats would probably be better for cleaning out mud and dirt but this is now more of a pavement princess! My brother said I should leave it single rear wheel, but my son in law thinks I should add the duals. I was going to add neoprene washers between the wheel adapter and the rim so I don’t ruin the paint on the rims. I’m kinda leaning towards duals but I’m not sure? So my question to you folks is what do you think? Here are pictures of the wheels on my 165 and the 175 as it is now. One way or the another I’m bringing it to the Big Show.

I vote singles.

My opinion is that duals are cool if they are the skinny wheels/tires.

I like the duals.
Looks like it’s wanting to pull a big honking implement behind it.  A miniature scraper comes to mind!

Duals take up too much room on the trailer. Get caught on stuff if you drive around at a show and are too easy to run over something or someone.

I like all the opinions, please keep them coming. It’s looking like singles are winning!

I think I like the singles however the big duals do look different??? I have duals for my 753 but never put them on. Space is tight in my garage with all my stuff & duals definitely take up a lot of space.

Your C175 looks incredible!

The only question is what do YOU want / like... :twocents-twocents:

Ive done dually on a Black Hood and loved the look, but functional wise there's no real "benefit"... i do think they look cool!!! but i'm partial to the Black Hoods regardless of accoutrements...

Here's the WHrat WHrecker before @Pullstart cross bred it with a school bus...

Maybe if I acquire a disc or scraper like one of these the duals will be more appropriate? Please excuse the green, it’s just for reference 🤣🤣 Kidding, whoever made this disc did a great job. And I know if you can find one of those scrapers they are crazy expensive. I would have to take them off for storage, as I am running out of room. Looks like singles and winning, thanks again for everyone chiming in 👍🏻

Singles, duals, Tripod, do whatever you like at home.

For the show I'd go singles. Like @Squonk said, too easy to catch on things, run over stuff, and the fair grounds is usually tight with tractors, pedestrians, and kids.

Someone runs over one of my kids' feet like that and I'm gonna laugh at them for not paying attention to what's going on. But I'd told most normal people would feel bad about it.

Duals are cool but realistically for looks. Weight is preferred if looking for better traction. Squonky's right bad thing about duals is the tractor can take it abit of trailer real estate if hauling to shows. Not to mention a extra stall in the barn.

Still if in a parade.

My vote is for singles with a quick mount of sorts for special events.

They look nice staggered too but can be a pain to get them just right either way.

I bought a c-85 a few years ago with a bucket and it had the dual wheel set up. For working they were a pain and seemed like I could never get where I needed to go. I took them off and now I'm loving what I can do with that little tractor and the bucket. Need to be careful and paying attention but with lots of weight it's impressive.

Depending on what you wanna do with it.

When i get with the Beast with it‘s strongly loaded FEL, counterweight and singles into the Garden

(with it’s featherweight of 680Kilos + Load in the Bucket) it begin to dig down to the Grassroots.

The spurs can be seen for weeks.

I believe with duals there will be much less spurs because of the bigger surface they have.

Traction itself is a mixture of weight and the given surface and needed Power.

But in the other hand -

i.eg if you pull a very heavy load over wet Grass 4WD is the Killer when we talk about Traction.

If there is no 4WD available i would put some weights in the middle on and use Duals.

So imho duals be not the holy Gral, but they look dang cool.

But that‘s just my experiences.
