Dave the Farmer 0 #1 Posted June 7 I have a Toro Wheel Horse Model 73429 Serial #8901097, 314–8 Garden Tractor . I was mowing for 4 hours yesterday, and when I turned off the ignition, the engine stopped but the starter motor continued to hum and would not disengage until I finally disconnected the battery. What can I do to solve this problem.
Sparky-(Admin) 21,352 #2 Posted June 7 That sounds like a bum ignition switch or the solenoid has “stuck” closed. If you reconnect the battery does the starter engage?
Dave the Farmer 0 #3 Posted June 7 Thanks Sparky! When I reconnected the battery, the tractor attempted to start so I disconnected it again.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,070 #4 Posted June 7 Sure it is not a model 73448?
Dave the Farmer 0 #5 Posted June 7 The Model # is actually 73428, Serial #8901097. Sorry for the confusion.

rwmastel 47 #9 Posted June 8 @gwest_ca Doesn't his serial number mean it's a 1989 model year? You keep posting newer 1998 documentation.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,070 #11 Posted June 8 With this type of serial number you reverse the first two digits to get the model year. Up to and including 1989 the hood decals had a maroon background. In 1990 on the hood decals had a black background.
