Trying to identify, seems 1965-1967 -ish

Looking at this tonight, seems similar to my grandfather's model 50+ years go.  Here's descript: Wheel horse garden tractor with wheel horse snow plow does run needs a little work to get it going again snow plow needs a pulley and belt to work needs a battery has two new front tires and and two spare rims and tires for rear asking $500 obo

 

Thoughts?  Would be my first WH, I have a gravely walk behind and my wife has a Simplicity Broadmoor.  Plan to use this to haul stuff in a wagon, etc.

That’s a 1964 “1054 or a 1965 “1054A”. 

  That would be a great rig for towing stuff around

Looks like a 953 ?? That would make it a 1963.

 

Maybe a 1054 ?? That would make it a 1964.

That looks like it, 1054 or 1054A.  I found a picture online of one with a Number 10 loader... I wonder if I could find one of those... looks like I am going to bring cash with me tonight.  Thanks!

The 953/1054 series garden tractors were a true slap in the face to the green and yellow brands back in the day!  Hi ground clearance, big fuel tank, super duty front axle, frame and rear Unidrive, big heavy front cast nose grille and hydraulic lift on a gear drive platform.

No belts and pulleys on snow plows.     The engine will have three pulleys.  The inside one powers the hydraulic lift pump.   The center one powers the transmission.  The outer one powers a deck, tiller, or snow blower.

Serial number indicates it is a 1963 model 953 if the sticker is on the tractor and not an attachment.

If it is on a 54'' dozer blade would be model BD-543

Picked her up, $400. Needs battery and second belt from inside ... transmission I guess.  I'll be working on oil, battery and belt and see how it runs over the weekend. Anyone know the middle belt size or number offhand?  Common belt to get local?  I'll take some better pics soon but I believe she's a winner!

I think the inside belt is for the hydraulic pump.  Not necessary to get it running and driving.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

The manuals list the drive belts as   1/2X70 for the 1054 and 1/2x82 for the 953.     Something doesn't seem correct on that big length difference.

Best to take some measurements.   I buy all my belts at Tractor Supply.   They can easily be returned if they don't fit.

 

Correction, the manual lists a 1/2x82 belt for both the 953 and the 1054.       It is the 1045 that uses the 1/2x70 belt.

Thanks all. I got the manual off here last night and will print it today.  Looks they were written by the same people that wrote gravely manuals back in the day, lol.  I had come to the conclusion that it was the 82" x 1/2" but will pick up the 70 also today just in case, hopefully they'll have them at one of my TSCs, I have one near work and one closer to home.  I will report back how things are going.

@Dave E is that an F250 light duty with the 7 lug wheels?  Don’t see them much.  I like the flat bed :handgestures-thumbupright:  I’m guessing the ladder rails are the ramps?  I built a similar design for a deck over my bed.  8’ 5-1/2” wide and 9’ long, just a smidge under DOT limits on width.

I have found the 82" belt o be a bit short,  Tractor Supply Kevlar 1/2"  by 83" seems to work well.

Based on the tires on your tractor I would say it is a 1965 Model 1054A.  The only thing that separates it from the 1963 and 1964 models is a few of the gears in the transaxle and the turf tires.

All I see for the 1054 is a 1/2"-20 thread size for the tie rod.

He also had another set of (dry rotted) turf tires on rims for it, I believe you are right which means the tractor and I both turn 60 next year which is cool.  There is no serial number tag under the steering wheel so this may be as close as we get.  Thanks!

Dude....Nice tractor score, but that truck is excellent.  Did you buy it that way, or have it built?

Good looking truck Pullstart!  It's actually an F150 (2011) Heavy Half Ton.  Long story but my dad built it before they were shipping and originally had a diamond plate "tonneau" very similar to yours on it to haul his ATV while towing camper.  As time went on he stepped up through several iterations to a Honda 1000 UTV and had this bed built.  I had a 2006 F150, 5.4L and he kept telling me he was going to give me his... to which which I always chuckled and said you'll be driving it for another 20.  Well, he got a very quick cancer 3 years back and a day or two before he passed he smiled and said "told ya you were getting the truck".  Well, I get to talk about Dad a lot because so many people comment on the truck, lol.  She pulls like a mule, I have a 38" toy hauler and an HD Electra-glide and it's no sweat and when I got a flat on the camper it was nice to have the floor jack, impacts and other goodies he left in one of the compartments.  Yes, the sideboards are ramps as well...

 

BTW: Dad was a Gravely walk behind fan and I have the one he bought new in 1974 - used it to pull my new WH across the yard last night, he always said the old WH's were great, my grandfather had one in the 60s/70s when I was young.  It was very well washed and waxed as I remember, we used to pull each other around in the trailer he had.  Buying this 1054 is bringing back some memories.

OoPEZoO: the truck was all Dad... see my other reply.  She's been well used towing small excavators, kubota and campers - I'm paying for that use now with turbo replacements and a tone of other maintenance as the odo approaches 170K but it would be very hard to replace the package so we'll be together for some years to come!  (I think he gave ME to the truck - lol)
