Keaton 437 #1 Posted June 5 (edited) I was just ready to go give my lawn ranger a fire up or try to after I got my recoil fixed by a guy down the road and I put it on and the starter cup that bolts to the flywheel is stripped our or there is not anymore teeth left on it they have been worn down, does anyone have an idea where I could get one, I will put the engine id tag in here, it is for a wheel horse 32r lawn ranger (1962) with a tecumpseh ht55 engine, more pics added, that is the recoil cup I need Edited June 5 by Keaton
ri702bill 8,392 #2 Posted June 5 SOMETIMES...... you can get good engagement by feeling the pull into place and THEN give it a yank......
Keaton 437 #3 Posted June 5 (edited) @ri702bill I tried that most of the time it does not work Edited June 5 by Keaton
ri702bill 8,392 #4 Posted June 5 Good - but a decent replacement cup is still most likely needed......
Keaton 437 #5 Posted June 5 I have been looking on eBay and messaged a seller I have 3 more things to do to that engine, recoil, compression and a new throttle spring.
wallfish 17,023 #6 Posted June 6 File it. Each individual groove with a small square file. Aggressive file works much faster plus it doesn't clog with aluminum filings. You can do it with a flat file if it has teeth on the edge as well and up to the tip of the file. A flat side for the pawls to grab, angled other side so they can get to the flat of the next one. Also make sure the edges of the pawls themselves are filed flat and sharp. The pawls come out farther so they will still engage if the starter mechanism itself is working properly. Nothing to loose if it's "Already Broke" Someone pulled the @#$) out of it when the starter wasn't working properly and partially engaging. That aluminum doesn't stand a chance against that and it wears down quickly And always follow 702Bill's advice, pawls engaged, then yank it
Keaton 437 #7 Posted June 6 @wallfish I pulled it untill it griped and pulled and it still strips out, I ordered one on eBay and it will be here soon and a spring for the throttle, I will do a final update on it after I hopefully get it running but it may need rings... :/
