312-8 brake pedal falls toward rear

Recommended Posts

KW88

Hey guys, need some help with this one. So I stripped entire rear end off my 312-8 to redo bearings, seals, brakes etc. I have the pics through complete dissambly but now while reassembling the brake pedal constantly falls towards the rear/ seat side of the tractor. At full brake it's not even 90 degrees to the floor. Almost seems like the brake arm is too short but there's also nothing I can find to stop it from falling like a spring or something.  I do know (with the help of this sites members) the transaxle is not original to the 88 model I have. It has the 1-1/8" axles. Was there a different size/ longer arm from pedal to bracket?

Any help would be appreciated as I'm very anxious to reassemble!

Thanks!

Most of our Herd here is older....

Seems to me I recall someone mentioning that the brake pedal rests AGAINST the side step.

No step/ nothing to hold it in place....?

There's some adjustment on the brake band rod. Loosen that back off the rod and the pedal will move forward.

Of course we don't have a pic of that side so not 100% sure since you mentioned trans changed but those brake bands should be located in the same place for both.

There's a little bit of adjustment in the Yellow circle but I'm not sure if that'll help you.

I believe you'll need to install the right side step before checking it.

Adjust these to move your pedal forward. Take the spacers out

Edit--Sorry, top is for the clutch pedal

I can't remember if there's a spring attached to that linkage somewhere too.

Mine was doing the same thing. I took the collar off and slid pedal off and put 2 washers behind it to move it out and now the bottom part of pedal hits on foot rest sheet metal that has the corner snipped off and stops it at about 90 degrees. I read something on here somewhere I think where someone had made a stop out of a small piece of angle I think and mounted it on top of the transmission somewhere.

I don not know how to operate all the buttons here to draw on your photos or I would show you on the pics where the stop was added. It was at the front of the rod coming from the brake band I think and went under an existing bolt maybe.

All that adjustment does is determine the peddle position move it forward or back. It doesn't make any difference in the brakes.  Tighting it moves the peddle back, but too tight the parking brake won't engage.

The footrest stops the peddle from falling back,  Taller people loosing that adjustment to move the peddle forward.

The brake pedals on my 310-8 and 312-8 had the same thing going on. They do rest on the corner of the foot rest but on one of mine it had bent the corner of the foot rest so much that it was cracked. The small piece of angle iron goes under the tunnel cover and works as a stop on the e brake. I can take a photo of it tomorrow if you would like.

Here’s the photo of the angle install to limit the e brake travel. I can’t take credit for this, another member clued me on to this a couple months ago.

Exactly, move the pedal forward and it won't flop backwards
