Transaxle

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a wheel horse 753. Son mowing and the trans axle froze up. I have all the manuals but I would like to have some idea of what to look for before tearing into it.

Thanks, Jim

Welcome back. It is highly likely that your old account and posts are still here. If you tell me the old account name I can find it, reactivate it and merge this account into it if you like.

First guess is there was some water in the transaxle at some point that rusted one or more bearings. it finally seized up. Here's how to work on it.

A different model trans but the same thing with video.

From this statement I gather that the tractor will not move under its own power and can not be pushed, is that correct?

There are a couple of probable causes.

1)     The first one is reasonably easy to take care of, the second will be a bit more work. If your son was shifting rapidly the trans mission could be locked in two gears at the same time. The attached thread about the shift lever will help you out if this iks the case.

2)     I have had the nut come off one of the bolts in a differential causing this. If this is the case you will need to remove the transmission and open it up to get at the differential.
