Ed Kennell 38,603 #9 Posted May 28 (edited) Best wishes Pete. Mrs K had 3,4,and 5 fused around 6 years ago. Piece of cake compared to the foot surgery she had 7 weeks ago...still in the wheel chair for one more week. Edited May 28 by Ed Kennell 1

Tonytoro416 1,067 #11 Posted May 29 Had the same surgery about four years ago at the age of 32. Best advice I could offer is walk everyday as much as they will let you. They will have you walking the same day of surgery by the way I had a brace that kept me from folding In half and I would strap up and just walk. Helped me mentally and physically

rmaynard 15,583 #15 Posted May 29 Best of luck. I had L3 thru L5 fused with titanium rods and screws back in 2015. Never have regretted it. I still have occasional back pain, but at age 74 with osteoarthritis, I expect that. My surgeon was the same age as me and he gave me lots of restrictions on bending, lifting, and twisting. My wife had similar surgery in 2020, L4 thru S1, and her surgeon was in his 30's. He gave her no restrictions except to not lift over 20 pounds for 6 weeks. Her recovery was much quicker than mine. So having said that, you do what your doctor tells you, but like others have said, WALK, WALK, WALK. 1

953 nut 55,739 #17 Posted May 29 I also have had spinal fusion in the lumbar region about nine years ago. Don't sit for longer that a half hour at a time, walking and moving as much as you can is the best advice I can give. Dear Lord, Peter Lena will be undergoing delicate spinal surgery soon. Please guide the surgeon's hands to be steady and effective to do the task at hand, and not create any further damage We pray against any infection or complications. Calm the heart of his family. Give Peter your peace so his body can heal under the best conditions. In the name of Jesus, bless him to be healthier after this procedure than before. Lord allow this temporary trial to bring this family closer to you and each other. When he is coming out of surgery, let the side effects be minimal. Work a miracle in this whole situation and bless it from beginning to end. Thank you Lord for your blessing on this family. We praise you as we know we are in good hands- the very hands of God. In Jesus name, we thank you for each day. Amen. 1
peter lena 8,716 #18 Posted May 29 @Tonytoro416 when I had my knees none, personally found a roller stool and a hard flat smooth floor , was my biggest gain , allowed me to be supported , while I pulled / pushed , and moved with comfort , was up and walking much sooner . as you know just being able to move is not nice . thanks for the insight , looking forward to recovery , think the most interesting thing , is getting someone that has had it done , give you their insight into movement ease . thanks , pete
