314 8 worker in decent shape

Well guys this tractor seems to be the go to worker this year. I picked it up two years ago for a nephew, but the Kohler Magnum 14 is just such a torque monster. 

   I started to take down some pasture with the 48 inch deck. With freshly sharpened blades it did a nice job mowing as high as possible and moderating the throttle it mowed real decent in second gear low range.

   The tractor has a thousand plus hours on it and the only real issue it had was a bad ignition switch. I see no difference in the tractor to a 416 as far as the carriage and wheels go. I have a preference for the Kohler over the Onan as well.

    This machine was steering pretty stiff as well so I used some old oil as well as grease to see what could happen.  I am down to my last deck drive belt and not sure what length it takes. Thinking a 101 or 102 but not sure. 

   She has nicer original paint but a few rub marks on the hood and hood decals. Bought it from Derek in Fountain City IN at a fair price.

@ohiofarmer  looks good to me , great time for a penetrating oil soak down , save that  paint , like an aerosol spray down every painted surface , lit it sit couple days , to feed that paint , then soft clean cloth rubdown , if the paint breaks thru , the grunge , wipe it down till dry ,  couple days later , use an electric 6" palm buffer , use a cleaner wax , go easy , you are trying to recover neglect , have had very good paint pop thru .jack the front end up off ground , safety stands for greasing 4 fittings , also check out wheel bearing side to side shucking , if sloppy get some shims or thin washers along with fresh grease . that 4 th grease fitting is at the base of steering column turn steering wheel to find it  , love going thru a recovery , bring it back to life , change the trans oil , new shift boot , keep in touch , good luck , pete

Thanks for the help fellas. I had a big setback last summer and could not even sit on a mower for months. I need to get another deck repaired for a second mower. Then my wife and I can knock those yards out

That deck looks like a 42".  The spindle belt is 1/2" x 86".

Any tips for the penetrating oil soak?  Maybe your secret recipe?

 @shamuscull  like a penetrating oil , KNOCK R LOOSE  , is good get the paint wet clean cloth to help coverage / detail , very important to let it sit at least a day , in a wet oiled era / patina look , thats the deep paint feed , and grunge killing effect . better under cover , prevent moisture retention , this not going to be instant , but it will definitely expose a paint that has been neglected .try wipe down first , usually immediate oiled patina look , if its good , do it again ! you are pulling out paint , last step is 6" electric palm buffer , cleaner wax , done my 3 , look period correct .  rather have an oiled finish than rust / grunge any day , pete

@shamuscull often refer to this , for any pick up , tractor / attachment, after initial  purchase , thats the first thing I do , think about it , as the hours / days pass to your lets see what I have , mindset . that penetrant  has been working for you ,  breaking thru the grunge / fade . not going to make  it into a show queen , more often than not , its period correct ,oiled patine shine , is super easy to , touch up . just try a spot , why not ? pete
