Center grease zerk

Recommended Posts

Greased up the 42” SD to mount up on my 315 and the center spindle wouldn’t take grease. Seems the zerk was wrecked. Hits the lift arm maybe? I had a new straight zerk in-stock but wonder if a 90 degree would be better?
  Anyone try that?

Don't see why it wouldn't but mine did the same thing.  The lift arm was the issue.  I added a few washers to the lift arm put the clip back in  to keep it away from the zerk

I run a 90 zerk. Never had an issue.

I changed the straight to a 45 on the 36" deck on the C81...

I tried a 45 on one of mine, and the lift broke it off no problem.  Now just take the deck off for service.  Sharpen blades, couple pumps of grease.

Do you have the hole in the lift pin for a spring clip and washer to keep the lift arm away from the grease fitting. I have also ground some metal off the bottom of the lift rod.  Gave up and did like Rick above, only grease when the deck is off, and use a fine thread set screw to keep the dirt out. When a deck is old and loose at all the joints there isn't a way to keep it from wearing away the grease fitting.
