squonk 41,291 #1 Posted May 24 I'm working on this 551. There is no engine on it to test it but this clutch return spring looks pretty whimpy. I don't think it will apply enough tension on the belt. What do you guys think and does anyone have a picture? Getting an engine at the show and hope to get it running and driving there.

squonk 41,291 #4 Posted May 24 It's pretty close except the wire diameter is only .03" I see the number you gave me is still available on E bay. I will probably order one. Thanks

Now that I found one, I'll find a bucket of them for a dollar! 1
Racinbob 11,194 #7 Posted May 25 Here's some info I have in my stash confirming with Garry: Suburban 400 Clutch Spring Wheel Horse # 1014 spring replaced by 83-2730 4.500" between hooks 4.5” .070" wire .069” .520" coil OD .630 .380 coil ID .492 3.570" coil length 3.665” 52 + 2 half coils same Gardner Spring #37083GS (McMaster-Carr #9433K111) Worked great on my 400. I'm assuming the 551 uses the same even though it's a 2-piece case.
