squonk 41,067 #1 Posted May 24 I'm working on this 551. There is no engine on it to test it but this clutch return spring looks pretty whimpy. I don't think it will apply enough tension on the belt. I will probably order one. Thanks 52 coils vs 20-ish and finer gauge wire? Definitely a hardware store replacement and on the wimpy side. Look for a spring at the show along with the engine! Racinbob 11,050 #7 Posted May 25 Here's some info I have in my stash confirming with Garry: Suburban 400 Clutch Spring Wheel Horse # 1014 spring replaced by 83-2730 4.500" between hooks 4.5” .070" wire .069” .520" coil OD .630 .380 coil ID .492 3.570" coil length 3.665” 52 + 2 half coils same Gardner Spring #37083GS (McMaster-Carr #9433K111) Worked great on my 400.
