squonk 41,099 #1 Posted May 23 (edited) Stretch of hot weather. Nothing celebrates it better than the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and the roar of loud crowd pleasing engines and the sight of speeding machines! Is it the Indy 500? Is it the World 600? HECK NO!!! It's large 4WD tractors flying up and down the road towing those giant HONEY WAGONS!!! 6AM to 9PM non stop. Then the added bonus of the smell of cow flop in the air when you want to put a window fan in to bring in some cool air at night. What a great time to be alive!!! CCW 1,295 #3 Posted May 23 Always told my kids that manure is the farmer's perfume as we drove by the local farm. 5
Pullstart 62,849 #4 Posted May 23 Send those drivers @ebinmaine’s address. We was just talking about cow rentals to easily spread the manure in small spaces. Winning! 4

Achto 27,570 #8 Posted May 23 Nothing like fresh dairy air. Only improvement on the smell of cow manure is to mix it with the smell of diesel exhaust. Those 2 smells mixed together always remind me of my youth. People often complain about the smells coming from a farm, they rarely complain about going to the store & finding the food that they want. 8 1 1
squonk 41,099 #9 Posted May 23 The cow Honey Wagons going by are much better than the pig farm to the south of me! 3 1
squonk 41,099 #10 Posted May 23 About every 20 minutes. Back and forth. You can almost set your watch. This time it looked like a 20ish old male driving the tractor with a 10ish girl and a 5ish boy sitting on his lap. Doing close to 30 rounding the corner.
Sodaking27 777 #11 Posted May 23 My grandfather used to tell me “That’s the smell of pure air” when I was growing up. And I’d always reply “yep pure as chit” 2

953 nut 55,217 #13 Posted May 23 Several of us had to milk the cows before getting on the school bus, taking off your boots and coveralls didn't do much to reduce the aroma. At that time it wasn't a big deal because everyone on the bus lived on a farm.
c-series don 8,701 #14 Posted May 24 As a kid (probably 12-13) I remember working at the farm down the road cleaning chicken coops. There was 3-4 of us all about the same age, and we would pitchfork manure out the door of the coop and into the spreader. One of the things I remember most was the ammonia that would burn your eyes, make them water and your nose run. I don’t really remember complaining about it though, I think we made the best of it and would laugh and carry on about whatever. When the tractor pulled the spreader out to the field we would get a little break! So I’m well aware of scents of the country 😂 I always wanted to have one of those tree shaped air fresheners made that would say old farm truck. I bet they’d sell like…… okay maybe they wouldn’t sell at all!! 1

ML3 1,201 #16 Posted May 27 For many years as a kid I spent my summer vacation from school on my aunt & uncles hog farm in Michigan. 2500 hogs! They had other livestock too as well as 150 acres of crops. I enjoyed it. Believe me that I know what a farm smells like! 2
