Electro 12 Starter

Recommended Posts

Mike'sHorseBarn

In need of a new starter and honestly have never had to buy one before. Below is a pic of the number of the starter, I'm not sure where I'd find the correct one. I see lots of starters online, but a little different than what I have. This one has a dead spot in the armature. Any help would be appreciated!

The main concerns when buying a Bendix starter for a single cylinder  K model Kohler is the mounting flange and the number of teeth on the pinion. I believe your engine should have a high mount starter, so mounting flange on the bottom with the pinion pointing to your left. Should be either 10 or 13 teeth on the pinion.

Some numbers to use for OEM or cross reference.

Kohler high mount 10 tooth pinion -

KOHLER 45-098-07, 45-098-09, 51-098-01, A236396, A237131, A237510, A237534, A-237510, A-237534, 237131, 237511, 237564, 45 098 07, 45 098 09, 45 098 09-S

Kohler high mount 13 tooth pinion -

KOHLER: 45 098 06, 45 098 11, 45 098 11-S

Definitely a 10 tooth and I'm pretty sure it's a high mount.

Yep. it is a high mount. The mounting brackets may very in design but the end locations should be the same.
