Quite sure the seat is a rejected Milsco seat that went home with someone from the factory in town here. I can see a few voids in it but nothing that makes it perform any different.

Is there a pulling class for a skinny mower with a comfortable seat?                         :ychain:

It is a pretty nice looking survivor, will most likely get it running "even though Techy's are my nemesis" and pass it on to someone who will give it some love.

I'll always have an appreciation for the older tube frame Ariens like that.

The first machine of any kind I drove solo was a 60s vintage with a tiller steer.

If I recall correctly.. I was the ripe old age of 6.

Get it cleaned up and running, and maybe you could put a Benjamin in your pocket, selling it.   :laughing-rolling:

I love the look of those things! I've been keeping my eye out for one somewhere close to me!

And all I find dropped off in my yard are Red Bull cans, vape pens and automotive exhaust parts!

I had an opportunity to play with this mower a little bit today. Had no spark so I pulled the flywheel & cleaned the points. Still no spark.:( Pulled the flywheel  AGAIN ( what a dumb design ) & cleaned the points. This time I used a multi-meter to ensure that they had good continuity to ground when closed. FINALLY obtained spark. :handgestures-thumbupright:. Cleaned the carb. Fixed the recoil so that it would retract the rope all the way in. Pulled the rope several times, flooded it a few times and then found the correct choke & throttle settings to get it running.:greetings-clappingyellow:

It runs pretty good for a Techy, drives well, would even mow if I could figure out how to adjust the deck belt. Transmission has some weird aspects. When in neutral you can not push the mower, push the clutch in and you can easily push it where ever you want. :confusion-confused: With the engine running you can put it in neutral, let the clutch out and the tractor goes no where as it should. :confusion-confused:

Now back to my search for a service manual for a model #3970 so that I can figure out how to adjust the belts.

Best of luck hunting down a manual.  Sounds like your making headway on that mower.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

Friction disc trans. Maybe the clutch disengages the disc?

Finally found manuals for this thing. :greetings-clappingyellow:

So to adjust the belt for the deck - it's as easy as turning the white Insta-Hitch knob located on the front of the mower.
