ToddA 2 #1 Posted May 5 (edited) I was mowing yesterday on a C-160 Hydro. It has 90-1137 rear end in it. When it first stopped moving forward and reverse the deck would still raise and lower but only a couple times not it to has stopped. I've checked belt, pulleys, fluid etc. everything looks fine.Is there something easy I can check? I downloaded the manuals but seems pretty complex.I also opened and closed the tow valve with no change. I have a extra 90-1140 rear end Does anyone know if it will fit? Easiest fix seems to be replace whole assembly. Thank you for any input Todd Edited May 5 by ToddA
daveoman1966 3,758 #2 Posted May 5 The 90-1140 should be a direct swap-over.... The C-160s had the 90-1140 from the get-go. That's the easiest out for you. The 90-1137 was for the bigger D series tractors anyway.

ToddA 2 #4 Posted May 5 (edited) Yes the pulley to the shaft is a spline. I loosened up bolt because I was thinking a sheared key but it is a spline shaft no key. I'm not sure if I should replace the whole assembly with axles etc. or just change the pump and the side of the axle. Edited May 5 by ToddA 1
daveoman1966 3,758 #5 Posted May 5 Let's assume two things: (1) both your Sundstrand units 90-1137 and the 90-1140 are in their 50s---or close to it. (2) neither of them has been opened up for an overhaul in those 50 years. Your description of 'no motion in fwd or rev and no hyd lift, leads me to believe that the soft brass internals have been damaged over the years and now require 'resurfacing' to restore system pressure. The hyd PUMP and the hyd MOTOR have similar brass components and share the same oil/ATF fluid. This is NOT DIFFICULT by any means so don't let the repair manuals intimidate you. I have rebuilt a dozen or more of these Sundstrand units and have prepared a FREE 'overhaul guide' for you use...lots of pics too. Here it is: I can also direct you on getting a Gasket and O-ring set if you go for the rebuild. Here is what I bet you'll find inside the hyd pump and the hyd motor.... 1
ToddA 2 #6 Posted May 5 (edited) Thanks for the info Dave Please send info on o ring and gasket and link to instructions and pics.I see 2 pics in reply but that's all I can see.I want to take the old one apart and try to repair it. I replaced it a 1 assembly for now because I use a 42 recycling deck and have to move every 3 or 4 days.Tomorrow I can pick up a couple axle seals and it will be mowing again.I would like to fix the old one so I will still have a spare. Thanks for the help Junkies!!!
