312-8 axles

I have an 88 312-8 with 1-1/8" axles. I need to replace them and the seals.  Anyone know the part #s and where to get them?

You will have to split the transmission and remove the differential to replace the axles. you also will probably need inner and outer axle bearings.

Information lists the 1988 312-8 as using a transmission with 1" axles and 4 pinion gears.

Perhaps it is not the original transmission?

I'm assuming it's not the original. I saw same thing that's why not sure on part #s

Try to measure the total length of both axles while in the trans...try using a  framming square.  Then divide that by 2 and that length will be close enough to know what axles to get.  This is assuming your trans is not a Limited Slip trans.  Those axles are different lengths.  The seals for 1 1/8" axles is SKF 11050.

Looks like 23-1/2". Any way to get a part # ?

Found these marks in casting. Can this identify any type of model transaxle?

I'm not by any means an expert when it comes to this stuff or how to source info so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Take those bolts out of the top of the trans and shine a light down one of those bolt holes.  Look down the dip stick hole and see if you can see the bolts holding the differential together.  If it looks like 5 you have a Limited Slip transmission.  If it is 4 bolts, you have an 8 pinion differential and the axles are the same length.

   The axles can butt together in the differential and have up to 1/8" slack of play.  Your 23 1/2" would break down to 11 3/4" axles which is Part # 102764 in a #5091 transmission (if this is an 8 pinion differential).

   If this is a limited slip trans, the axles are 1. 12" Part # 7202 and 2. 11 1/4" Part # 7273.  This adds up to approx. 23 1/4"

Sense you are looking to change out axles, I would open it up and go from there.  You can probably get parts in a couple of days from one of our vendors.  Hope that helps.
