What is this?

I got this in a grab bag of wheel horse parts. Does anyone know what it is? I am assuming it is some kind of switch. What is the giant flange for?  Curiosity is killing me. Thanks again.

That flange /switch is probable from a 1961 suburban 551

I looked at some photos of that model and I believe you are correct. I would never have figured that out.  Thanks again guys.

Yup - looks like a 3 terminal early 1960's keyswitch in a 2" tank or dash hole plug.

OR- someone mounted an ignition switch in the hole for the ON-OFF switch of a 552 tank dash plug....

As usual you guys have tons of info. I think I also have the old solenoid that goes with it in the box of Stuff, but no key. I do not know how to tell if it’s any  good or if it’s trash can material.

Connect BAT terminal to battery +

Ground the small terminal to battery - and the solenoid should close.
